The efficacy of endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) against abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in younger patients remains unknown. Hence, the current study aimed to investigate whether the aneurysm-related mortality rate of EVAR is acceptable among patients aged ≤70 years. Among 644 patients, 148 underwent EVAR (EVAR group), and 496 received open surgical repair (OSR group).

Objective: The purpose of the study is to assess if daily use of hypnotics increases mortality, aspiration pneumonia and hip fracture among relatively healthy individuals aged 75 years or older who lead independent lives in the community.

Method And Patients: Of the adults aged 75 years or older residing in Hokkaido prefecture of Japan (n = 705,538), those who did not meet several exclusion criteria were eligible for generating propensity score-matched cohorts (n = 214,723). Exclusion criteria included co-prescribed medications acting on the central nervous system, diagnoses of malignant neoplasm, dementia, depression, etc.

Eighty percent of children diagnosed with cancer in childhood survive into adulthood. Fertility preservation (FP) is an important consideration, and procedures are available to reduce the risk of infertility following gonadotoxic therapies. Discussing FP options eases decision-making and minimizes regret; however, poor comprehension of these topics remains a challenge.

Unlabelled: Ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) is the only pre-treatment option currently available to preserve fertility for prepubescent girls and patients who cannot undergo ovarian stimulation. Currently, there is no standardized method of processing ovarian tissue for cryopreservation, despite evidence that fragmentation of ovaries may trigger primordial follicle activation. Because fragmentation may influence ovarian transplant function, the purpose of this systematic review was (1) to identify the processing sizes and dimensions of ovarian tissue within sites around the world, and (2) to examine the reported outcomes of ovarian tissue transplantation including, reported duration of hormone restoration, pregnancy, and live birth.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the impact of wheat bran (WB) and wheat straw fiber (WSF), by-products of the wheat flour industry, on gut bacteria in mice by comparing diets with varying fiber content.
  • - Mice were fed diets with no fiber, 10% WB, or 5% WSF over 14 days, and researchers analyzed the gut microbiome using advanced sequencing techniques to identify which bacteria thrived in each diet.
  • - Results showed higher populations of specific bacteria in the WB group, with isolated strains Wheat-1 and Wheat-12 demonstrating effective fermentation capabilities and increased antioxidant activity after fermentation of WB.

Background: Many articles recommend early surgery for ovarian hernia to avoid the risk of ovarian torsion. However, while ovarian hernia is known to undergo spontaneous reduction (SR) in early infancy, few reports have described the timing of SR. We therefore investigated the clinical features of SR for ovarian hernia in early infancy.

Article Synopsis
  • - The shortage of donor hearts creates challenges for cardiac transplants in advanced heart failure patients, leading to a demand for regenerative therapies.
  • - Human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) show promise in generating cardiomyocytes that could aid heart recovery, but issues like teratoma formation and scaling production need addressing for clinical use.
  • - This study successfully combined pure cardiac spheroids with gelatin hydrogel to improve heart function and developed a transplantation strategy with a device for these regenerative cardiomyocytes.

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a rare but severe genetic disorder in which acute inflammation elicits progressive heterotopic ossification in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Classic FOP is caused by the R206H mutation in ALK2/ACVR1. While several activin receptor-like kinase 2 (ALK2) inhibitors were found to be efficacious in animal models of FOP, most of the ALK2 (R206H) inhibitors lacked sufficient oral bioavailability for efficacy.
