Expanding community-based participatory action research practices to clubhouses through sustainable research activities.

Objective: There is growing utilization and acknowledgement of the benefits of community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) in advancing health practices and equity. However, the sustainability and full impact of CBPAR in health care settings faces many obstacles and limitations. The present article examines the synergies between CBPAR and Clubhouse programs, presents the demonstration and ongoing implementation of sustainable CBPAR practices at Fountain House in New York City, and offers lessons learned for other Clubhouses and similar programs seeking to integrate CBPAR.

Background: More data are needed to guide evidence-based, inpatient registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) staffing models.

Objective: Identify relationships between: 1) patient malnutrition risk or intervention categories and estimated total RDN care time ("care time"); and 2) care time and emergency department (ED) visits.

Design: This study was a prospective cohort study with data collection via RDN surveys, patient interviews, and medical record review.

Role of the neonatal registered dietitian nutritionist in Canada: A description of staffing and a comparison to practices in the United States.

Background: Neonatal registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) are critical members of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) team. Ideal RDN staffing levels are unknown. Current staffing levels of neonatal RDNs in Canadian NICUs have not been recently reported.

Hearing preservation outcomes using direct cranial nerve eight and auditory brainstem response neuromonitoring in the resection of vestibular schwannomas.

Objective: Advancements in microsurgical technique and technology continue to improve outcomes in patients with skull base tumor. The primary cranial nerve eight monitoring systems used in hearing preservation surgery for vestibular schwannomas (VSs) are direct cranial nerve eight monitoring (DCNEM) and auditory brainstem response (ABR), although current guidelines are unable to definitively recommend one over the other due to limited literature on the topic. Thus, further research is needed to determine the utility of DCNEM and ABR.

US neonatal intensive care unit registered dietitian nutritionists salary description and correlates: results of a survey.

Background: This survey described the compensation of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) in the United States and examined correlates of higher salaries within this group.

Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was completed in 2021 by 143 NICU RDNs from 127 US hospitals who reported hourly wage in US dollars (USD). We used initial bivariate analyses to assess the relationship of selected institution-level and individual-level variables to hourly wage; the rank-sum test for binary variables; bivariate regression and Pearson correlation coefficients for continuous variables; the Kruskal-Wallis test for categorical variables.

An age-friendly approach to primary care in an academic health system.

Background: Age-friendly care, addressing what matters most, medications, mentation, and mobility, is a successful model for improving older adult care. We describe the initial outcomes of age-friendly care implementation in five primary care clinics in an academic health system.

Methods: In partnership with a regional quality improvement (QI) organization, we used practice facilitation to implement age-friendly care from July 2020 to June 2023.

Background: The optimal stenting approach for traumatic pseudoaneurysms (PSA) of the extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) remains underinvestigated. We present a case of a traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the extracranial ICA managed with stenting and review of prior published similar cases.

Methods: The systematic review followed PRISMA-S guidelines and included studies that investigated traumatic pseudoaneurysms of the extracranial ICA managed by stent placement.

The Modern Era Reanalysis (ModE-RA) is a global monthly paleo-reanalysis covering the period between 1421 and 2008. To reconstruct past climate fields an offline data assimilation approach is used, blending together information from an ensemble of transient atmospheric model simulations and observations. Within the somatosensory cortex, pyramidal excitatory neurons elaborate axon collateral branches in a laminar-specific manner that dictates synaptic partners and overall circuit organization. Here, we leverage both male and female mouse models, single-cell labeling and imaging approaches to identify intrinsic regulators of laminar-specific collateral, also termed interstitial, axon branching.

The Association Between Mental Health, Substance Use Disorder, and Outcomes After Total Joint Arthroplasty.

Background: Prior studies suggest that distressed patients or those who have poor mental health have inferior postoperative outcomes when compared to nondistressed patients. However, these studies typically do not account for substance use or other comorbidities often found in this population, which can independently contribute to postoperative complications. This study sought to control for these factors and assess if a diagnosis of a mental health condition is directly associated with worse outcomes after total joint arthroplasty.

The Role of the Neonatal Registered Dietitian Nutritionist: Past, Present, and Future.

Neonatal registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) are critical members of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) team due to their unique skillset of growth assessment, nutrition evaluation, and implementation of nutrition best practices. There is a paucity of data on appropriate staffing of neonatal RDNs in NICUs to promote improved patient outcomes. Here, the authors describe current neonatal RDN staffing and responsibilities in the US NICUs.

Secreted semaphorin 3F (Sema3F) and semaphorin 3A (Sema3A) exhibit remarkably distinct effects on deep layer excitatory cortical pyramidal neurons; Sema3F mediates dendritic spine pruning, whereas Sema3A promotes the elaboration of basal dendrites. Sema3F and Sema3A signal through distinct holoreceptors that include neuropilin-2 (Nrp2)/plexinA3 (PlexA3) and neuropilin-1 (Nrp1)/PlexA4, respectively. We find that Nrp2 and Nrp1 are S-palmitoylated in cortical neurons and that palmitoylation of select Nrp2 cysteines is required for its proper subcellular localization, cell surface clustering, and also for Sema3F/Nrp2-dependent dendritic spine pruning in cortical neurons, both in vitro and in vivo.

Informing the development of the coaching online and community health (COACH) program: a qualitative study of clubhouse members living with serious mental illness.

Health and wellness interventions addressing risk factors for early mortality among individuals with serious mental illness have demonstrated success and can be further augmented with digital technology. These programs may be suitable for delivery in psychosocial rehabilitation clubhouses, especially given many services have transitioned to digital platforms during the pandemic. This qualitative study aimed to: (a) explore clubhouse members' experiences engaging with the virtual clubhouse platform, and their preferences for accessing digital wellness and health promotion content; and, (b) gauge members' interest in an online peer-driven lifestyle intervention and their suggestions for program design.
