Background: The role of quorum sensing signaling in the immunoinflammatory response during the development of periodontitis is not yet known. This study aimed to explore the effect of Autoinducer-2, a quorum sensing signaling molecule, on macrophage phenotypic remodeling in the immune microenvironment of periodontitis, to further elucidate its mechanism and to discover inhibitors against periodontitis.

Methods: Bioluminescence experiments and periodontitis model were used to demonstrate the association between periodontitis progression with AI-2.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between autoinducer-2 (AI-2) of oral microbial flora and the alveolar bone destruction in periodontitis to determine if AI-2 may have the potential that monitor periodontitis and predict bone loss.

Background: Plaque biofilm was the initiating factor of periodontitis and the essential factor of periodontal tissue destruction. The formation of biofilms depended on the complex regulation of the quorum sensing (QS) system, in which bacteria could sense changes in surrounding bacterial density by secreting the autoinducer (AI) to regulate the corresponding physiological function.

A novel oxidative cross-coupling reaction for the synthesis of α-aryl α-amino ketones in the presence of palladium catalysts using TBF as an oxidant has been developed. This transformation was achieved by direct C-H oxidation of α-aminocarbonyl compounds and arylation. The mild reaction has a broad reaction scope and gives desired α-aryl α-amino ketones in moderate to excellent yields.

Tunable properties prompt the development of different "tailor-made" functional ionic liquids (FILs) for specific tasks. FILs with an ether group are good solvents for many organic compounds and enzymatic reactions. However, ionic composition influences the solubility by affecting the physiochemical properties of these FILs.

Three kinds of hydrophobic/acidic bifunctional ionic liquids, which contain two different anions, were synthesized and utilized as catalysts for the conversion of cellulosic saccharides into alkyl glucosides, which exhibit a high catalytic conversion for cellobiose and cellulose with a low degree of crystallinity; the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused.

Several cationic monoether-functionalized ionic liquids (MEF-ILs) with different substituents were synthesized and used as media for kinetic resolution of secondary alcohols catalyzed by several lipases. The results indicate that Novozym 435 (an immobilized Candida antarctica Lipase B) had higher efficiency compared to other lipases in deracemization. The alkyl substituents at the 2- and 3-positions in the imidazolium ring of MEF-ILs were found to contribute to the increased enantioselectivity and enhancement of the reaction rate, respectively, while the higher stereo-hindrance of ether bonds decreased the activity.
