Comparison of utility of deep learning reconstruction on 3D MRCPs obtained with three different k-space data acquisitions in patients with IPMN.

Objective: To compare the utility of deep learning reconstruction (DLR) for improving acquisition time, image quality, and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) evaluation for 3D MRCP obtained with parallel imaging (PI), multiple k-space data acquisition for each repetition time (TR) technique (Fast 3D mode multiple: Fast 3Dm) and compressed sensing (CS) with PI.

Materials And Methods: A total of 32 IPMN patients who had undergone 3D MRCPs obtained with PI, Fast 3Dm, and CS with PI and reconstructed with and without DLR were retrospectively included in this study. Acquisition time, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) obtained with all protocols were compared using Tukey's HSD test.

Preoperative CT Findings for Predicting Acute Exacerbation of Interstitial Pneumonia After Lung Cancer Surgery: A Multicenter Case-Control Study.

Acute exacerbation (AE) is a life-threatening complication of inter-stitial pneumonia (IP). Thoracic surgery may trigger AE. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of preoperative CT findings in predicting postoperative AE in patients with IP and lung cancer.

A case of rheumatoid arthritis complicated with mucous membrane pemphigoid.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease of unknown aetiology that causes irreversible joint destruction and has been known to present with not only various extra-articular symptoms, but also various autoimmune disorders. Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterised by inflamed and eroded mucosa. The prognosis of MMP can be poor, so early diagnosis and prompt initiation of therapy are necessary for optimal management.

Androgen action generates sex-related differences that include changes in the gut microbiota composition. Hypoandrogenism and hyperandrogenism in males and females, respectively, are associated with the prevalence of metabolic disorders. Our recent work showed that male androgen receptor knockout (ARKO) mice developed high-fat diet (HFD)-dependent sarcopenic abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia, and hepatic steatosis, leading to early death.

Anti-glomerular basement membrane antibody disease complicated by posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome.

Anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) antibody disease is a rare type of small-vessel vasculitis. Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a syndrome of heterogeneous aetiologies grouped together based on similar neuroimaging findings. We report a rare case of a patient who received treatment for anti-GBM antibody disease who developed PRES.

Takayasu Arteritis Coexisting with Sclerosing Osteomyelitis.

We report a rare case of a 27-year-old woman with Takayasu arteritis (TAK) complicated by diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis. She first presented with sclerosing osteomyelitis of the right mandible without evidence of arteritis in the carotid arteries. Eight months later, she complained of left neck pain, and imaging studies revealed the presence of arteritis in the left carotid artery.

Hypogonadism alters cecal and fecal microbiota in male mice.

Low testosterone levels increase the risk for cardiovascular disease in men and lead to shorter life spans. Our recent study showed that androgen deprivation via castration altered fecal microbiota and exacerbated risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including obesity, impaired fasting glucose, excess hepatic triglyceride accumulation, and thigh muscle weight loss only in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed male mice. However, when mice were administered antibiotics that disrupted the gut microbiota, castration did not increase cardiovascular risks or decrease the ratio of dried feces to food intake.

A 26-year-old Japanese woman developed autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) during glucocorticoid therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Intensive immunosuppressive therapy worsened the PAP. De-escalation of immunosuppressive therapy improved the PAP.

Intestinal Tuberculosis with Hoarseness as a Chief Complaint due to Mediastinal Lymphadenitis.

A 68-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of hoarseness. A chest X-ray detected an abnormal shadow on the upper right lung. Bronchoscopic examination revealed that the left vocal cord was fixed in the paramedian position, and therefore left recurrent nerve paralysis was suspected.

Ganoderma lucidum Karst is well known as 'Reishi', a traditional food in China and Japan. It contains a polysaccharide component known to induce granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) production from murine splenocytes. Moreover, GM-CSF may be a therapeutic agent for Crohn's disease.

Trans-sacral resection of a solitary fibrous tumor in the pelvis: report of a case.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) develop most commonly in the pleura, although they have occasionally been reported to arise in the pelvic cavity. We report a case of an SFT presenting as a painless nodule in the pelvis of a 56-year-old woman. Histologically, the tumor was composed of spindle-shaped cells arranged without pattern, with short and narrow fascicles and interspersed bundles of thick collagen, and numerous blood vessels with a focally hemangiopericytoma-like appearance.

Reactivation of cytomegalovirus predicts poor prognosis in patients on intensive immunosuppressive treatment for collagen-vascular diseases.

Reactivation of cytomegalovirus (CMV) occurs during intensive immunosuppressive therapies. However, the influence of CMV reactivation on prognosis in patients with immunosuppressive therapies for collagen-vascular diseases (CVD) is not fully understood. To determine whether CMV reactivation affects the prognosis of patients with CVD and to identify risk factors of CMV reactivation, we reviewed, retrospectively, the medical records of 109 CVD patients who were treated with glucocorticoid (prednisolone ≥20 mg/day) and were tested for CMV antigen (CMV-Ag).

Role of natural killer T cells in the mouse colitis-associated colon cancer model.

Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are considered innate-like lymphocytes, and regulate the immunity against inflammation and tumorigenesis. However, the impact of iNKT cells in inflammation-associated tumorigenesis remains unclear. In this study, we examined the physiological role of iNKT cells in a mouse colitis-associated colorectal cancer model.

Systemic sclerosis complicated by arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia that was misinterpreted as pulmonary arterial hypertension.

A 58-year old Japanese woman who had been diagnosed with and managed for systemic sclerosis (SSc) with pulmonary arterial hypertension died suddenly. However, the autopsy revealed marked right ventricular dilatation, and the myocardium had been replaced by fatty tissue. These findings were consistent with arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD).

Efficacy of ecabet sodium enema on intractable rectal ulcer after piecemeal endoscopic mucosal resection for rectal tumor.

We describe a case with rectal bleeding from a rectal ulcer after endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), successfully treated with an ecabet sodium (ES) enema. A 44-year-old woman with a laterally spreading rectal tumor of a granular type, 60 mm in diameter, underwent piecemeal EMR. After the EMR, she suffered from rectal bleeding on several occasions over a period of 1 month.

Infliximab treatment for Crohn's disease in a patient with IgA nephropathy.

We describe herein a case of IgA nephropathy in a 34-year-old woman with Crohn's disease (CD) treated with infliximab. CD first appeared at the age of 15 years. An elemental diet was started for remission maintenance.

Catheter ablation for right ventricular outflow tract ventricular tachycardia induced by fever in a 7-year-old girl.

We report a 7-year old girl with ventricular tachycardia exacerbated by fever. She experienced her first symptom of palpitations during an influenza infection, and electrocardiogram showed wide QRS tachycardia of a left bundle branch block inferior axis pattern. We performed an electrophysiological study (EPS) for diagnosis, but the wide QRS tachycardia could not be induced.

Rituximab was effective on refractory thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura but induced a flare of hemophagocytic syndrome in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus.

We report the case of a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who first revealed hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS), which was treated successfully with glucocorticoid and intravenous cyclophosphamide. The patient then demonstrated refractory thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) with normal a disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS)-13 activity that responded well to rituximab. After rituximab treatment, the patient showed a flare of HPS that was controlled by additional intravenous cyclophosphamide treatment.
