Methods: This multicenter, non-blinded, randomized, non-inferiority trial included patients who underwent elective colorectal surgery for colorectal cancer in a university and community hospital in Japan from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2023. Purpose: To examine the hypothesis that an increase in response of postmenopausal bone to interval walking training (IWT) depends on baseline bone mineral densities (BMDs).

Methods: Two hundred and thirty-four postmenopausal women (64±5 (SD) yr) with no medication for osteoporosis performed 5-month IWT, repeating fast and slow walking at ≥70% and ~40% peak aerobic capacity, respectively, for 3 minutes each per set, ≥5 sets/day, ≥4 days/week. They were recruited from those who had performed IWT ≥6 months before participating in the study so that their physical fitness and lifestyle-related disease symptoms had almost reached a steady state at the time of their participation.

The current study aimed to predict lymphovascular invasion (LVI) using multiple machine learning algorithms and multi-segmentation positron emission tomography (PET) radiomics in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, offering new avenues for personalized treatment strategies and improving patient outcomes. The proportion of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis involving the straight sinus (StS) is low, and the prognosis is poor. We report a case of multiple sinus thrombosis involving StS in which the patient underwent mechanical thrombectomy (MT) using a stent retriever and an aspiration catheter (combined MT) with a good postoperative course. A 15-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital with rapid loss of consciousness.

The Ro approach was chosen for individuals with severe colitis extending into the anal canal, deeper rectal cancers (beyond T1), and cases requiring residual rectal resection, taking advantage of its benefits.

Introduction: Combination therapy of anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy has been widely used as a first-line treatment for patients with unresectable advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in clinical settings; however, prognostic biomarkers associated with survival outcomes have not been sufficiently investigated.

Methods: We enrolled 147 previously untreated patients with advanced NSCLC who were treated with a combination therapy of anti-PD-1/-PD-L1 antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy at eight institutions in Nagano Prefecture between December 2018 and April 2023. We evaluated the prognostic value of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), a systemic inflammatory nutritional biomarker calculated from body weight and serum albumin level, for patients with NSCLC treated with a combination therapy of anti-PD-1/-PD-L1 antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy.

High-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) is a life-threatening, noncardiogenic pulmonary edema that occurs in unacclimatized individuals rapidly ascending to high altitudes above 2,500 m above sea level. Until the entity of HAPE was first identified in a case report published in Japan in 1966, the symptoms of severe dyspnea or coma occurring in climbers of the Japan Alps were incorrectly attributed to pneumonia or congestive heart failure. The Shinshu University Hospital serves as the central facility for rescuing and treating patients with HAPE in the region.
