Aims: To evaluate the incidence and risk factors for carotid artery stenosis amongst asymptomatic type 2 diabetes from a single Malaysian tertiary institution.
Methods: This is a prospective cross-sectional study of asymptomatic type 2 diabetics selected from the outpatient ophthalmology and endocrine clinics for carotid duplex ultrasound scanning performed by a single radiologist. The duplex ultrasound criteria were based on the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET) classification of carotid artery stenosis.
Incidence of inadvertent arterial puncture secondary to central venous catheter insertion is not common with an arterial puncture rate of <1%. This is due to the advancements and wide availability of ultrasound to guide its insertion. Formation of arteriovenous fistula after arterial puncture is an unexpected complication.

Background: Proper vascular access is essential for the long-term survival of chronic haemodialysis patients. The preferred vascular access in terms of long-term function is the native arteriovenous fistula. The success of native arteriovenous fistula depends mainly on a sufficient vein diameter.

A metastasis appearing as a hypervascular tumour, mimicking an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), is a highly unusual phenomenon, with a biopsy required for diagnostic confirmation. Surgery is an option for a solitary metastatic lesion amenable to complete excision, with proven survival benefits.

Background: Revascularisation is the gold standard therapy for patients with critical limb ischaemia (CLI). In over 30% of patients who are not suitable for or have failed previous revascularisation therapy (the 'no-option' CLI patients), limb amputation is eventually unavoidable. Preliminary studies have reported encouraging outcomes with autologous cell-based therapy for the treatment of CLI in these 'no-option' patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAortic malignant neoplasms are rare; these may be primary or secondary (metastatic). Increasing use of cross-sectional imaging has allowed better detection and diagnosis of these conditions. We encountered a young woman presenting with acute abdomen who was found on cross-sectional imaging to have a malignant tumor involving the aortic bifurcation.

The most widely prescribed treatment for CVD worldwide is micronized purified flavonoid fraction 500 mg (MPFF). The aim of this clinical trial was to develop a new once daily 1000-mg oral suspension of MPFF.

Catheter fracture has been attributed to several factors namely prolong mechanical force acting on the catheter, and forceful removal or insertion of the catheter.
Case Details: In the present case, the fracture was suspected during the process of removal.
The delay reverse sural neurofasciocutaneous flap is used to reconstruct soft tissue defects in the lower third of the leg to improve outcome in patients with associated comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, smokers and ischaemic heart disease. The author reports the use of a delayed reverse sural flap as soft tissue cover for a calcaneal defect in a patient with associated comorbidities who has an ipsilateral Gred 3C (Gustilo) tibial fracture after vascular reconstruction.

This study describes the demographic, etiologic and clinical course of acute pancreatitis among the three main races in Malaysia namely, the Malays, Chinese and Indians. One hundred and thirty-three consecutive patients were admitted for acute pancreatitis for the period January 1994 to July 1999 and they consisted of 77 males and 56 females with a mean age of 43.
