Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a fatal form of venous thromboembolism (VTE), with an overall untreated mortality of up to 30%. Greater than 50% of patients with lower extremity proximal DVT have concurrent PE at presentation. VTE has been seen in up to one-third of patients with COVID-19 infections requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission.
