Objective: Effective child abuse intervention requires understanding its prevalence. While obtaining a comprehensive national estimate of child abuse cases is challenging, sentinel injuries-minor yet unusual injuries like bruises or wounds in pre-cruising-age children-can provide an indicative measure. Using the National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS) data, this study aimed to gauge the prevalence of sentinel injuries using diagnostic codes in children under 12 months who visited emergency centers in South Korea and to evaluate the extent of child abuse screening in these cases.

ETV5, a member of the ETS transcription factor family, promotes T cell differentiation in mice. In this study, we examined the role of ETV5 in the pathogenesis of lupus in mice and humans.

This study aimed to investigate the association between low muscle mass and the prognosis of patients with biliary sepsis, focusing on outcomes such as length of hospital stay (LOS), intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and in-hospital mortality. This retrospective, single-center, observational study included adult patients with biliary sepsis who visited the emergency department between January 2016 and December 2021.

Aim Of The Study: As sepsis is a life-threatening disease, it is important to predict the prognosis in the early stages to establish treatment plans. This study aimed to investigate the association between sarcopenia, determined by the psoas muscle area, and the prognosis of sepsis due to acute cholecystitis.
Methods: This retrospective single-center observational study included adult patients with sepsis due to acute cholecystitis who visited the emergency department between January 2016 and December 2021.
Objective: To address child abuse effectively requires accurate assessment of the magnitude of the problem. Although it is difficult to assess the scale of child abuse cases nationwide, it can be estimated through the incidence of sentinel injuries, which are defined as minor but unusual injuries such as bruises or wounds in children of precruising age. Therefore, this study aimed to define disease codes for sentinel injuries by age as a preliminary study to elucidate the incidence of sentinel injuries among patients who visited hospitals nationwide.

Methods: This was a retrospective, multicenter, observational study of adult patients who received ECPR between May 2010 and December 2016. In the two hospitals involved in this study, NSE measurements were a routine part of the protocol for patients who received ECPR.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the change in length of stay (LOS) in the emergency department (ED) and outcomes during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective observational study. We compared ED LOS and outcomes in patients aged ≥19 years who presented to the ED of Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital, a single tertiary university hospital, between January and December in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Maxillofacial trauma occasionally presents a serious challenge for physicians, and an orofacial injury can be considered life-threatening. It is difficult to control the bleeding and prevent airway obstruction simultaneously with conventional treatment. Herein, we share two cases in which we managed massive orofacial bleeding using a King laryngeal tube, a supraglottic airway device equipped with an inflatable balloon.

While the number of South Koreans diagnosed with COVID-19 cases has varied greatly by season, the number of confirmed cases in foreign nationals has shown no seasonality, with an average of around 25 to 30 per day. For foreign patients, accommodation arrangements and travel routes may be difficult; they may also have difficulty accessing medical care, so require careful management.

Renal infarction (RI) is a very rare disease, and many RI patients complain of flank pain. However, there is no definitive predictor of RI when patients complain of flank pain.

Retensioning of the adjustable loop has been recommended; however, the timing of the retensioning is unknown.
Hypothesis: Early (ER) and late retensioning (LR) will show similar gapping between the femoral tunnel and graft on follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and similar clinical outcomes.
Background And Purpose: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is one of the most common causes of death in many countries. For OHCA patients to have a good clinical outcome, bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is extremely significant. It is necessary to study the various characteristics of bystanders to improve bystander CPR quality.

However, it is difficult to interview CO-poisoned patients accurately about exposure intervals and loss of consciousness (LOC). Thus, we investigated whether DNS can be predicted using objective factors such as laboratory results and brain imaging in patients suffering CO poisoning with altered mental status.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning can result in delayed neurological sequelae (DNS). Factors predicting DNS are still controversial. This study aims to determine whether acute brain lesions observed using diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) following acute CO poisoning are related to the subsequent development of DNS.

This research aimed at showing its protective effect against UVA-induced apoptosis of human keratinocyte HaCaT cells. Using Hoechst staining, it was demonstrated that propolis (5 and 10 μg/mL) significantly inhibited the apoptosis of HaCaT cells induced by UVA-irradiation.

We have studied the effect of propolis on neurite outgrowth of SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells induced to differentiate by all-trans-retinoic acid (RA). Propolis, at a concentration of 3 μg/mL, had no significant effect on the viability of differentiating SH-SY5Y cells.

Methods: This was a prospective observational study of non-consecutive non-trauma adult patients with OHCA. Echocardiography was performed every 2 min during a pulse check for <10s throughout the resuscitation effort managed according to advanced life support treatment guidelines.
Phytoncide essential oil derived from pine leaves was applied for the control of enzymatic browning of fresh-cut lettuce. Changes in the browning characteristics of cut lettuce treated with phytoncide in an water or ethanol solution (1%, v/v) at 10°C were investigated for 12days at 4°C. Other samples dipped in distilled water or 95% ethanol were used as the controls.
