Article Synopsis
  • The study involved preparing 15 batches of lyophilized powder from a substance benchmark in Houpo Wenzhong Decoction to analyze its quality through fingerprinting, component content, and extract rates.
  • Results showed a high similarity (over 0.90) between the fingerprint of the benchmark substance and a reference map, with specific characteristic peaks identified from various herbs in the decoction.
  • The research established content ranges for key components (e.g., hesperidin, glycyrrhizic acid) and helped set initial quality standards for the decoction, contributing to future studies on similar herbal prescriptions.

contains two types of β-galactosidase, LacLM and LacZ, belonging to different glycoside hydrolase families. The difference in function between them has been unclear so far for practical application. In this study, and from ATCC51647 were cloned into constitutive lactobacillal expression vector pMG36e, respectively.

Recently, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus (CoV) 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2)‑causing CoV disease 2019 (COVID‑19) emerged in China and has become a global pandemic. SARS‑CoV‑2 is a novel CoV originating from β‑CoVs. Major distinctions in the gene sequences between SARS‑CoV and SARS‑CoV‑2 include the spike gene, open reading frame (ORF) 3b and ORF 8.

In the last decade, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have undergone unprecedented rapid development and become a promising candidate for a new-generation solar cell. Among various PSCs, typical 3D halide perovskite-based PSCs deliver the highest efficiency but they suffer from severe instability, which restricts their practical applications. By contrast, the low-dimensional Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskite-based PSCs have recently raised increasing attention due to their superior stability.

Weak n-type characteristics or poor p-type characteristics are limiting the applications of binary semiconductors based on ambipolar field-effect transistors (FETs). In this work, a ternary alloy of InGaAs nanowires (NWs) is successfully prepared using a Ni catalyst during a typical solid-source chemical-vapor-deposition process to balance the weak n-type conduction behavior in ambipolar GaAs NWFETs and the poor p-type conduction behavior in ambipolar InAs NWFETs. The presence of ambipolar transport, contributed by a native oxide shell and the body defects of the prepared InGaAs NWs, is confirmed by the constructed back-gated NWFETs.

Controlled synthesis of GaAs nanowires (NWs) with specific phases and orientations is important and challenging, which determines their electronic performances. Herein, single-crystalline GaAs NWs are successfully synthesized by using complementary metal-oxide semiconductor compatible CuO catalysts via chemical vapor deposition at an optimized temperature of 560 °C. In contrast to typically Au catalyzed GaAs NWs, the CuO catalyzed ones are found to grow along nonpolar orientations of zincblende <110> and <211> and wurtzite <1̅100> and <2̅110>.

Finite element numerical progressive damage modelling and simulations applied to the strength prediction of airframe bolted joints on composite laminates can lead to shorter and more efficient product cycles in terms of design, analysis and certification, while benefiting the economic manufacturing of composite structures. In the study herein, experimental bolted joint bearing tests were carried out to study the strength and failure modes of fastened composite plates under static tensile loads. The experimental results were subsequently benchmarked against various progressive damage numerical modelling simulations where the effects of different failure criteria, damage variables and subroutines were considered.

Nowadays, it is necessary and challenging to prepare monolithic catalysts, which are ready for use, preventing the tedious and complicated integration procedure of the powder materials onto a porous substrate. Herein, CuO nanoparticles are successfully synthesized onto a porous Cu foam in one pot the surface oxidation, coordination and precipitation reactions in a NHOH and HCl solution, and the optimum synthesis conditions are a NH : HCl ratio of 1 : 0.9, oxidation temperature of 80 °C and time of 18 h.

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common disease with ulcers in oral cavity which may trigger chewing, speaking, and swallowing difficulties to patients. Treatment of RAS is primarily aimed at pain relief and the promotion of wound healing. However, few agents have been found to have definite effect in the management of RAS and most of the medicinal products may cause adverse reactions or other disadvantages, which makes their clinical usage questionable.

Auxin regulates almost every aspect of plant growth and development and is perceived by the TIR1/AFB auxin co-receptor proteins differentially acting in concert with specific Aux/IAA transcriptional repressors. Little is known about the diverse functions of TIR1/AFB family members in species other than Arabidopsis. We created targeted OsTIR1 and OsAFB2-5 mutations in rice using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and functionally characterized the roles of these five members in plant growth and development and auxinic herbicide resistance.

Combinational photothermal-chemotherapy offers great advantages for the treatment of cancer. To achieve this goal, the poly-tannic acid (pTA) coated paclitaxel nanocrystals (PNC) were prepared, which was denoted as PNC-pTA. Herein, paclitaxel (PTX) was prepared as nanocrystals acting as chemo-agent for chemotherapy.

The present study aimed to evaluate the underlying mechanism of microRNA-203 (miR-203) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) involving the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. The results revealed downregulated miR-203 and upregulated CAV1 in RCC tissues. Upregulated miR-203 and downregulated CAV1 increased E-cadherin expression and cell apoptosis, decreased β-catenin and N-cadherin expression and cell proliferation, migration and invasion, and blocked cell cycle entry.

Boar sperm are susceptible to oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) during storage. Adenosine monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an important therapeutic target, because it is a cellular metabolism energy sensor and key signalling kinase in spermatozoa. We evaluated the effects of rosmarinic acid (RA), an antioxidant, on boar sperm during liquid storage to determine whether it protects boar sperm via AMPK activation.

The success of an autoclave process is related to the temperature characteristics of the mold. An inhomogeneous temperature field in the mold affects the quality of composite parts, which may lead to residual stress, voids, and other manufacturing defects of composite parts. In order to meet high-quality production demands, the temperature field in a mold should be investigated precisely.

Since the emergence of novel coronavirus pneumonia in late 2019, it has quickly spread to many countries and regions around the world, causing a significant impact on human beings and society, posing a great threat to the global public health system. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was highly infectious, and some complications emerged rapidly in some patients, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, and multiple organ failure. The virus could trigger a series of immune responses, which might lead to excessive immune activation, thereby bringing about the immune system imbalance of the body.

A dynamic model based on BaCeYO (BCY10) perovskite membrane for steam permeation process is presented here to essentially investigate the internal mechanism. The transient concentration distribution and flux of the charged species and the electric potential distribution within the membrane on the steam permeation process are analyzed in detail via simulation based on this model. The results indicate that the flux of steam can be improved via elevating operating temperatures, enlarging the difference of the partial steam pressure between two sides of the membrane, increasing the membrane density, and reducing the membrane thickness.
