This study aimed to produce livestock manure biochar to decrease environmental problems from livestock manure and evaluate its effectiveness as an organic fertilizer by examining the growth and nutrient use efficiency of crops. A plot experiment was conducted to investigate the characteristics of lettuce growth and nitrogen use efficiency in upland soils treated with cow manure biochar. The cow manure biochar was applied at rates of 0, 3, 5, 7, and 10 t ha (referred to as CMB0, CMB3, CMB5, CMB7, and CMB10, respectively), along with inorganic fertilizer (IF, NPK-200-59-12 kg ha).

Introduction: Increased levels of proinflammatory markers have been reported in tissues of individuals with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). We hypothesize that inflamed dental pulp tissues of individuals with previous history of COVID-19 may present a differential inflammatory gene expression profile in comparison with individuals who never had COVID-19.

Objective: To compare the convenience and effectiveness of the existing lumbosacral orthoses (LSO) (classic LSO and Cybertech) and a newly developed LSO (V-LSO) by analyzing postoperative data.

Methods: This prospective cohort study was performed from May 2019 to November 2019 and enrolled and analyzed 88 patients with degenerative lumbar spine disease scheduled for elective lumbar surgery. Stem cell-based treatment of traumatic brain injury has been limited in its capacity to bring about complete functional recovery, because of the poor survival rate of the implanted stem cells. It is known that biocompatible biomaterials play a critical role in enhancing survival and proliferation of transplanted stem cells via provision of mechanical support. In this study, we noninvasively monitored in vivo behavior of implanted neural stem cells embedded within poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) scaffold, and showed that they survived over prolonged periods in corticectomized rat model.

We report the fabrication and characterization of individual nanotube-based, long and straight needle nanoprobes for electrochemistry and the study of their applicability and behavior in microenvironments. The needle nanoprobe, with a nanoscale ring-shaped Au electrode at the tip of the needle serving as the active electrode, was characterized by electrochemical current measurement and cyclic voltammetry and analyzed with electrochemical models. Such a needle nanoprobe, in combination with another metal-coated nanowire as a reference electrode, was further used, for the first time, for local electrochemical sensing inside microdroplets having volumes down to a few picoliters.
