 Capsular contracture of breast implants is a major complication in breast surgery. Clinically, covering a breast implant with acellular dermal matrix (ADM) or autologous tissue is considered to be the most effective technique to prevent capsular contracture. This study was designed to compare the protective effects of ADM and latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle flap placement on capsular contracture by increasing the rate of capsular contracture through controlled radiation exposure in a rabbit model.

Impact of Alternating-Current Operation on All-Inorganic Quantum Dot Light-Emitting Diodes.

In colloidal quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs), replacing organic hole transport layers (HTLs) with their inorganic counterparts is expected to yield distinct advantages due to their inherent material robustness. However, despite the promising characteristics of all-inorganic QD-LEDs, some challenges persist in achieving stable operation; for example, the electron overflow toward the inorganic HTL and charge accumulation within working devices return a temporal inconsistency in device characteristics. To address these challenges, we propose an operational approach that employs an alternating-current (AC) in all-inorganic QD-LEDs.

Introduction: Post-mastectomy radiotherapy plays a crucial role in breast cancer treatment but can lead to an inflammatory response causing soft tissue damage, particularly radiation-induced capsular contracture (RICC), impacting breast reconstruction outcomes. Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), known for their regenerative potential via paracrine capacity, exhibit inherent radiotolerance. The influence of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) on ADSCs has been reported to enhance the paracrine effect of ADSCs, promoting wound healing by modulating inflammatory responses.

A Rare Atypical Case of Asymptomatic and Spontaneous Intraneural Hematoma of Sural Nerve: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Intraneural hematoma is a rare disease that results in an impaired nerve function because of bleeding around the peripheral nerve, with only 20 cases reported. Trauma, neoplasm, and bleeding disorders are known factors for intraneural hematoma. However, here we report atypical features of asymptomatic and spontaneous intraneural hematoma which are difficult to diagnose.

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy is an effective treatment method for large-vessel occlusion stroke (LVOS); however, it has limited efficacy for intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD)-related LVOS. We investigated the use of cerebral blood volume (CBV) maps for identifying ICAD as the underlying cause of LVOS before the initiation of endovascular treatment (EVT).

Methods And Results: We reviewed clinical and imaging data from patients who presented with LVOS and underwent endovascular treatment between January 2011 and May 2021.

Current understanding of angiosarcoma: disease biology and evolving treatment.

Angiosarcoma is a very rare soft tissue sarcoma that originates from endothelial cells and typically has a poor prognosis. It is most commonly found in elderly white men and can occur anywhere in the body, particularly in the head, neck, and scalp. Patients who have undergone previous radiation treatment or who have chronic lymphedema also face an elevated risk of this condition.

Expandable patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse tumor and corresponding PDX culture (PDXC) models recapitulate many of the biological and genetic characteristics of the original patient tumor, allowing for a comprehensive pharmacogenomic analysis. Here, the somatic mutations of 23 matched patient tumor and PDX samples encompassing four cancers were first evaluated using next-generation sequencing (NGS).

Makorin ring finger protein 3 (MKRN3) was identified as an inhibitor of puberty initiation with the report of loss-of-function mutations in association with central precocious puberty. Consistent with this inhibitory role, a prepubertal decrease in Mkrn3 expression was observed in the mouse hypothalamus. Here, we investigated the mechanisms of action of MKRN3 in the central regulation of puberty onset.
