Background: Physiotherapy is recommended for bronchiectasis management, but there is disparity in evidence supporting its use. This is partly because of inconsistency and poor reporting of outcomes in available studies. A Core Outcome Set (COS) may improve trial consistency and decrease reporting bias.

Surfaces on transit vehicles are frequently touched and could potentially act as reservoirs for micro-organism transmission. Regular cleaning and disinfection to minimize the spread of micro-organisms is operationally challenging due to the need to keep vehicles in circulation. The application of copper (Cu) alloys to high- touch surfaces could help reduce the risk of cross-contamination, however, little is known about the durability and efficacy of engineered copper surfaces after prolonged use.

Introduction: Evidence of the effectiveness of physiotherapy for bronchiectasis is inconsistent, partly due to variation in the selection and reporting of outcomes in clinical trials. This qualitative study is a component of the development of a core outcome set (COS). The COS will identify a minimum group of outcomes for use in clinical trials of physiotherapy considering the views of researchers, patients, and clinicians.

Mammalian oocytes are enveloped by the zona pellucida (ZP), an extracellular matrix of glycoproteins. In sperm, stimulation with ZP proteins evokes a rapid Ca influx via the sperm-specific, pH-sensitive Ca channel CatSper. However, the physiological role and molecular mechanisms underlying ZP-dependent activation of CatSper are unknown.

Neonatal suppurative parotitis (NSP) is a very rare disease of the salivary glands, usually involving the parotids. It is mostly due to Staphylococcus aureus bacterial infection among patients with predisposing factors, and management mainly relies on hydration and intravenous antibiotics with an excellent prognosis. Herein, we present a case of an 11-day-old female baby who presented with left periauricular edema and tenderness associated with fever that was later diagnosed as NSP due to both non-typable beta-hemolytic streptococci and Escherichia coli.

Navigation of sperm in fluid flow, called rheotaxis, provides long-range guidance in the mammalian oviduct. The rotation of sperm around their longitudinal axis (rolling) promotes rheotaxis. Whether sperm rolling and rheotaxis require calcium (Ca ) influx via the sperm-specific Ca channel CatSper, or rather represent passive biomechanical and hydrodynamic processes, has remained controversial.

Sperm from sea urchins are attracted by chemical cues released by the egg-a mechanism called chemotaxis. We describe here the signaling pathway and molecular components endowing sperm with single-molecule sensitivity. Chemotactic signaling and behavioral responses occur on a timescale of a few milliseconds to seconds.

The nonlysosomal glucosylceramidase β2 (GBA2) catalyzes the hydrolysis of glucosylceramide to glucose and ceramide. Mutations in the human gene have been associated with hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP), autosomal-recessive cerebellar ataxia (ARCA), and the Marinesco-Sjögren-like syndrome. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are ill-defined.

Delineating tumor margins as accurately as possible is of primordial importance in surgical oncology: extent of resection is associated with survival but respect of healthy surrounding tissue is necessary for preserved quality of life. The real-time analysis of the endogeneous fluorescence signal of brain tissues is a promising tool for defining margins of brain tumors. The present study aims to demonstrate the feasibility of multimodal optical analysis to discriminate fresh samples of gliomas, metastases and meningiomas from their appropriate controls.

We assessed parental attitudes towards congenital cardiovascular malformations in their children in a cross-sectional study in Egypt. Parents face many problems related to concerns about their child's prognosis, but these associations with parental stress have never been evaluated in Egypt or examined in relation to religiosity in a predominantly Muslim society. Accordingly, we conducted interviews in Cairo with mothers of 99 sequential infants born with conotruncal heart malformations (cases) and 65 mothers of age-matched controls.

We report a study of gradient index (GRIN) lenses as a miniaturized micro-objective for in vivo imaging in the context of the development of a nonlinear endomicroscope. A numerical study of the parameters influencing the lateral resolution, excitation, and collection efficiency, when GRIN lens is coupled with a double clad fiber (DCF), is exposed. Four commercial DCFs, previously identified from the literature as potential endoscopic fibers, are simulated.

Several endomicroscope prototypes for nonlinear optical imaging were developed in the last decade for in situ analysis of tissue with cellular resolution by using short infrared light pulses. Fourier-transform-limited pulses at the tissue site are necessary for optimal excitation of faint endogenous signals. However, obtaining these transform-limited short pulses remains a challenge, and previously proposed devices did not achieve an optimal pulse delivery.
