Correlation between ocular biometric parameters and corneal endothelium in a sample of young Egyptian adults.

Background: To evaluate the normative values of corneal endothelial cell parameters within a group of healthy young Egyptian adults using specular microscopy and to examine any correlations between endothelial parameters and refractive or biometric parameters.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, specular microscopy was used to study the right eyes of 150 healthy young volunteers and evaluated endothelial cell parameters, including cellular density, hexagonality (HEX), and coefficient of variation (CV) at 15 different points on the back corneal surface, which were later grouped into the central zone and either four quadrants or three annular zones. The same eyes underwent refractive and biometric assessments.

Optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) enables simple identification and localization of a plethora of refractive and reflective events on a fiber link, including splices, connectors and breaks, and measuring insertion/return loss. Specifically, large enough OTDR dynamic range (DR) and thus high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) enable clear far-end visibility of longer fibers. We point out here that, under such conditions, the optical bit-error-rate (BER) floor is dominantly determined by reflective events that introduce significant return loss.

Effect of N95 filtering facepiece respirators on dental health professionals with an emphasis on pulmonary function and heart rate: an intrasubject comparison.

Despite the ubiquitous use of N95 filtering facepiece respirators (N95 FFR), published literature on the topic remains scarce, especially in relation to dental professionals. This study assesses the impact of N95 FFRs on blood oxygen saturation and heart rate of dental health professionals while performing procedures requiring varying degrees of physical exertion in an aerosol-rich environment. A total of 51 participants, consisting of 43 men and eight women aged between 23 and 31 years were recruited into the study.

Challenges of continuation of live liver donor programme during COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan: outcomes and lessons learned.

Background: COVID-19 pandemic has globally affected healthcare including the transplantation programmes.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively studied the impact of COVID-19 on live liver donor (LLD) programme at liver transplant centre in Gambat, Pakistan. Standard operative procedures (SOPs) including COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab PCR, CT scans, personal protective equipment use, 6-feet distancing were developed for LLD and transplant team to mitigate COVID-19 exposure.

In a study of four hundred and ninety-nine (499), 86% city and 14% transit bus drivers are surveyed through a questionnaire.

Introduction: There is a lack ofevidence about resource use and costs of childhood cancer care in Egypt. Knowledge about resource use/costs can help in better resource planning to improve care and outcomes efficiently. In this study, we estimated patterns and trends of hospital resource use and costs for children with cancer (n = 8886, aged 0-18 years) treated at Children's Cancer Hospital, Egypt (CCHE), between 2013 and 2017, by ICCC-3 groups, at one and three years post-diagnosis.

Clinical management of snakebite envenoming: Future perspectives.

Snakebite envenoming is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in rural communities throughout the tropics. Generally, the main clinical features of snakebites are local swelling, tissue necrosis, shock, spontaneous systemic hemorrhage, incoagulable blood, paralysis, rhabdomyolysis, and acute kidney injury. These clinical manifestations result from complex biochemical venom constituents comprising of cytotoxins, hemotoxins, neurotoxins, myotoxins, and other substances.

Background: Breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) are drivers of therapy-resistance, therefore are responsible for poor survival. Molecular signatures of BCSCs from primary cancers remain undefined. Here, we identify the consistent transcriptome of primary BCSCs shared across breast cancer subtypes, and we examine the clinical relevance of ITGA7, one of the genes differentially expressed in BCSCs.

Introduction: Bladder exstrophy is a rare malformation with functional and psychological issues affecting children's quality of life. This study aims to evaluate the urinary continence and the quality of life of patients operated for bladder exstrophy in our institution.

Methods: This is a retrospective study including fifteen patients operated for bladder exstrophy between 1995 and 2015.

Methods: Women with a single-fetal pregnancy who consulted the outpatient service of the maternity "C" ward of the center of maternity and neonatology of Tunis and had perceived fetal movements were included. Maternal-fetal attachment was assessed by the Prenatal Attachment Inventory (PAI), and the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) was used to evaluate experienced bond to mother.

In-hospital mortality in SARS-CoV-2 stratified by hemoglobin levels: A retrospective study.

This study is to estimate in-hospital mortality in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) patients stratified by hemoglobin (Hb) level. Patients were stratified according to hemoglobin level into two groups, that is, Hb <100 g/L and Hb >100 g/L. A total of 6931 patients were included.
