Patterns of ionospheric luminosity provide a unique window into our complex, coupled space environment. The aurora, for example, indicates plasma processes occurring thousands of km away, depositing immense amounts of energy into our polar ionospheres. Here we show observations of structured continuum emission associated with the dynamic aurora.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the association of educational level, work experience, and other demographic factors with the perceived impact of nurse practitioner role effectiveness.

Additively manufactured plastic plasma spectrometer.

We report results in the development and testing of a low resource tophat electrostatic analyzer (ESA) for space plasma measurements. This device has been additively manufactured (3D-printed) using fused deposition modeling. The classic tophat design is composed of four plastic pieces, without any surface coatings.

Fatal Pediatric Firearm Injuries: When and Where Are Children at Risk?

Objective: In 2022, firearms injured or killed more than 6000 American children. Significant disparities exist in injury risk. We hypothesized that analyzing an injury's time, date, and location could help identify additional risk and protective factors in the pediatric population.

An EYA3/NF-κB/CCL2 signaling axis suppresses cytotoxic NK cells in the pre-metastatic niche to promote triple negative breast cancer metastasis.

Unlabelled: Patients with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) exhibit high rates of metastases and poor prognoses. The Eyes absent (EYA) family of proteins are developmental transcriptional cofactors/phosphatases that are re-expressed and/or upregulated in numerous cancers. Herein, we demonstrate that EYA3 correlates with decreased survival in breast cancer, and that it strongly, and specifically, regulates metastasis via a novel mechanism that involves NF-kB signaling and an altered innate immune profile at the pre-metastatic niche (PMN).

Supporting healthy lifestyles for First Nations women and communities through co-design: lessons and early findings from remote Northern Australia.

Background: The period before, during, and after pregnancy presents an opportunity to reduce diabetes-related risks, which in Australia disproportionately impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women/communities is essential to ensure acceptability and sustainability of lifestyle modifications. Using a novel co-design approach, we aimed to identify shared priorities and potential lifestyle strategies.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours of the liver - a systematic review.

Background: Hepatic inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours (HIMTs) are rare and poorly described in the literature. Most publications are single patient case reports and lack detailed reporting on characteristics, management, and outcomes. This systematic review aimed to assess the demography, clinical presentation, typical imaging features, histopathology, treatment, and outcomes of patients presenting with HIMTs.

The DNP project: Two decades of impact.

Twenty years ago, pioneer Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program students completed the first DNP projects. Today, DNP projects remain a requirement for graduation. This article illustrates how the DNP project can be integrated throughout the DNP curriculum to maximize effectiveness and promote the introduction, reinforcement, and evaluation of competencies in the new American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials.

Evaluation of the Impact of Discharge Clinic Follow-Up Interventions on 30-Day Readmission Rates.

Care transition programs can result in cost avoidance and decreased resource utilization. This project aimed to determine whether implementation of a discharge clinic, referral to a community paramedicine program, or a second postdischarge call affected 30-day readmission rates. This single-center retrospective exploratory design study included 727 discharged patients without access to a primary care provider who were scheduled for a discharge clinic transitions appointment.

State-Level Analysis of Intimate Partner Violence, Abortion Access, and Peripartum Homicide: Call for Screening and Violence Interventions for Pregnant Patients.

Background: Despite representing 4% of the global population, the US has the fifth highest number of intentional homicides in the world. Peripartum people represent a unique and vulnerable subset of homicide victims. This study aimed to understand the risk factors for peripartum homicide.

Trauma surgical skill sustainment at the University of Chicago AMEDD Military-Civilian Trauma Team Training Site: an observation report.

Background: The Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Military-Civilian Trauma Team Training (AMCT3) Program was developed to enhance the trauma competency and capability of the medical force by embedding providers at busy civilian trauma centers. Few reports have been published on the outcomes of this program since its implementation.

Methods: The medical and billing records for the two AMCT3 embedded trauma surgeons at the single medical center were retrospectively reviewed for care provided during August 2021 through July 2022.

Trauma surgeons experience compassion fatigue: A major metropolitan area survey.

Introduction: Compassion fatigue (CF), the physical, emotional, and psychological impact of helping others, is composed of three domains: compassion satisfaction (CS), secondary traumatic stress (STS), and burnout (BO). Trauma surgeons (TSs) experience work-related stress resulting in high rates of CF, which can manifest as physical and psychological disorders. We hypothesized that TSs experience CF and there are potentially modifiable systemic factors to mitigate its symptoms.

Celebrating over 20 years: Outcomes from the first doctor of nursing practice program.

The first Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program was opened at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing (UKCON) in 2001. As the CON celebrates 20 plus years of DNP education, leaders decided to do an assessment of the accomplishments and outcomes from the work of graduates. The purpose of this study was to delineate the achievements, outcomes and perception of the impact of graduates from the UKCON DNP program and assess the correlations of specific "perception of impact" variables.

There are few reported cases of successful free tissue transfers within the sickle cell population. The majority of successful cases involve fasciocutaneous free flaps with few successful muscle flaps.

Examining racial disparity in psychotic disorders related ambulatory care visits: an observational study using national ambulatory medical care survey 2010-2015.

Background: One of the most consistent research findings related to race and mental health diseases is the disproportionately high rate of psychotic disorder diagnoses among people of color, specifically people of African descent. It is important to examine if a similar pattern exists among specific psychotic disorders. We aimed to examine the racial/ethnic differences in ambulatory care visits diagnosed with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders (SSDs).

Comparing surgeon perception to publicly reported data using NSQIP.

Background: Past studies have demonstrated that surgeons' perceptions of their own postsurgical complications may not be accurate. The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database is a nationally validated, risk-adjusted, outcomes-based program created to measure and improve the quality of surgical care. Using information acquired through survey data, the purpose of this study is to determine how surgeons' perceptions of their own postoperative complications rates compare to the NSQIP database that tracks these outcome metrics.
