Egyptian patients with cleft lip: our experience with primary rhinoplasty.

Background: Controversy exists regarding the timing of rhinoplasty for patients with cleft lip as some surgeons shy away from primary correction for fear of causing harm to the growth of the nose and the maxilla. Burns During Pregnancy: Is the Outcome Still Gloomy? A Follow-up Case Series.

Despite the incidence of burns in pregnancy not being high, its occurrence leads to high morbidity and mortality for both mother and fetus. In 1997, we published a series of 27 cases of pregnant women who were managed and followed up for fetal and maternal outcomes at Ain Shams University's burn unit and Maternity Hospital during the period from October 1995 to September 1996. Now, 2 decades later, we report on 7 cases of burns admitted to the burn unit and the Maternity Hospital at Ain Shams University, during the period from January 2019 through June 2022.

Effects of Singing on Vascular Health in Older Adults with Coronary Artery Disease: A Randomized Trial.

Background: The impact of singing on cardiovascular health has not been extensively studied. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of singing on cardiovascular biomarkers in an aging population with coronary artery disease.

Methods: Participants had three study visits separated by 2-7 days, according to a randomized, single-blind, cross-over, controlled design: (1) a 30-minute period of coached singing from an in-person music therapist, (2) a 30-minute period of singing along to an instructional video and (3) a 30-minute rest (control).

Prevention and treatment of peri-implant fibrosis by functionally inhibiting skeletal cells expressing the leptin receptor.

The cellular and molecular mediators of peri-implant fibrosis-a most common reason for implant failure and for surgical revision after the replacement of a prosthetic joint-remain unclear. Here we show that peri-implant fibrotic tissue in mice and humans is largely composed of a specific population of skeletal cells expressing the leptin receptor (LEPR) and that these cells are necessary and sufficient to generate and maintain peri-implant fibrotic tissue. In a mouse model of tibial implantation and osseointegration that mimics partial knee arthroplasty, genetic ablation of LEPR cells prevented peri-implant fibrosis and the implantation of LEPR cells from peri-implant fibrotic tissue was sufficient to induce fibrosis in secondary hosts.

Successful treatment of hard flaccid syndrome with multimodal therapy: a case report study.

Our article outlines a case study assessing the use of low-intensity shock wave therapy (LiSWT) for managing Hard Flaccid Syndrome (HFS). Given the absence of standardized treatments for HFS, LiSWT could serve as an additional tool in the treatment arsenal. The case involved a 36-year-old male presenting HFS, low libido, chronic pain, and erectile dysfunction.

Effects of antiseptic irrigation solutions on osseointegration in a cementless tibial implantation mouse model.

Despite the success of standard antiseptic irrigation solutions in reducing periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) rates, there is still a need for more effective solutions. Synergistic use of povidone-iodine (PI) and hydrogen peroxide (HO) has shown promising results; however, the optimal solution concentration balancing bactericidal activity and osseointegration remains unknown. This study aims to evaluate the impact of these antiseptic irrigation solutions on osseointegration and the bone-implant interface strength in vivo.

Hard-Flaccid syndrome: a survey of sexual medicine practitioners' knowledge and experience.

Hard-flaccid syndrome (HFS) is a poorly understood condition of male sexual dysfunction (MSD) that has more recently become a new topic of discussion in online forums and sexual medicine conferences. There has been limited research looking into HFS and consequently there are no evidence-based guidelines for its work-up and management. In order to identify the current level of understanding of HFS in the sexual medicine community, a survey was distributed at a national urologic conference focusing on pertinent management strategies employed by practitioners, and their own thoughts on HFS.
