Pleural CEA, CA-15-3, CYFRA 21-1, CA-19-9, CA-125 discriminating malignant from benign pleural effusions: Diagnostic cancer biomarkers.

Introduction: There is a need for a rapid, accurate, less-invasive approach to distinguishing malignant from benign pleural effusions. We investigated the diagnostic value of five pleural tumor markers in exudative pleural effusions.

Methods: By immunochemiluminescence assay, we measured pleural concentrations of tumor markers.

First Iranian Experience of the Minimally Invasive Nuss Procedure for Pectus Excavatum Repair: A Case Series and Literature Review.

Pectus excavatum is the most common congenital deformity of the chest wall. The most frequently used techniques include Ravitch (costochondral resection) and Nuss (minimally invasive pectus repair of pectus excavatum [MIRPE]). The Nuss technique includes using temporary metallic bars without costochondral resection to correct the chest wall deformity.

Primary mediastinal synovial sarcoma: A rare case report.

Introduction: Synovial sarcomas commonly occur in the extremities of young adults. A primary occurrence in the mediastinum is very rare with only a few reported cases in the world literature. We report a case of mediastinal synovial sarcoma.

Pancreas transplantation in shiraz organ transplant center; the first Iranian experience.

Background: Pancreas transplantation is the treatment of choice for selected patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. We reviewed our first 40 patients who underwent pancreas transplantation in Shiraz Organ Transplant Center.

Methods: Between April 2006 and April 2008, we performed pancreas transplantation on 40 recipients.

Transplantation of a horseshoe kidney.

Experience with horseshoe kidney transplantation is limited. Horseshoe kidney may be underutilized for transplantation because of the greater incidence of vascular and other associated urological anomalies. Nowadays, owing to a greater number of patients waiting for a kidney donation and to a shortage of organs donated, more suitable organ acceptance criteria have been formulated.
