Efficient synthesis of novel dimethyldihydropyrimido[4,5-b]quinolones via three-component condensation of barbituric acid, arylaldehydes, and 3,4-dimethylaniline catalyzed by FeO@SiO@[Aminoglycol][Formate] as a new superparamagnetic nanocatalyst and [Aminoglycol][Formate] as a novel ionic liquid catalyst was described. The new heterogeneous nanocatalyst was characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, FT-IR, TGA-DTG, and VSM techniques. The new ionic liquid was characterized by CNMR, HNMR, and FT-IR techniques.

A bifunctional nanocatalyst composed of iron containing SBA-15 material modified with sulfonic acid groups was synthesized by a mechanochemical approach. A full characterization of the obtained nanocatalyst was performed by N physisorption isotherms analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The mechanochemically synthesized nanocatalyst displays a high isoeugenol conversion to vanillin under mild conditions using HO as oxidizing agent.

In Canada, the world's top exporter of high-protein durum, varietal development over its nearly six-decade history has been driven by a quest for yield improvement without compromise on grain protein content and other quality aspects. Pelissier, a landrace selection from Algeria that was introduced into North America more than a century ago and the variety Strongfield that was released in 2004 are notable. Pelissier, known to elaborate more roots and considered as drought tolerant, has been cultivated commercially and thus deemed adapted.

The flowers of flax (linseed) are blue-hued, ephemeral and self-pollinating, and the seeds are typically brown. A century-old interest in natural yellow seed variants and a historical model point to recessive alleles in B1, D and G loci being responsible, but the functional aspects had remained unknown. Here, we characterized the "D" locus by quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping and identified a FLAVONOID 3'5' HYDROXYLASE (F3'5'H) gene therein.

Superparamagnetic γ-FeO@SiO@lisinopril (MNPs-Lisinopril) nanoparticles are T2 and T2* negative contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging. In this work, we report the preparation of lisinopril-coated MNPs for the first time as new T2 and T2* negative contrast agent for in vitro and in vivo MRI imaging and demonstrate the potential it simultaneously for drug delivery system, diagnose the tumors and MRI contrast agent. Measurements on the relaxivities (r, r and r*) of the MNPs-Lisinopril were determined in deionized water (in vitro).

An efficient and direct protocol for the preparation of amidoalkyl naphthols employing a multi-component, one-pot condensation reaction of beta-naphthol, aromatic aldehydes and acetamide in the presence of ferric hydrogensulfate under solvent, solvent-free and microwave conditions is described. The thermal solvent-free and microwave green procedures offer advantages such as shorter reaction times, simple work-up, excellent yield, recovery and reusability of catalyst. It is noteworthy that 1-amidomethyl-2-naphthols can be converted into important biological 'drug like' active 1-aminomethyl-2-naphthols derivatives by amide hydrolysis.

A new, mild, and novel method is described for the efficient deoxygenation of sulfoxides to their corresponding sulfides with 1,3-dithiane at room temperature in the presence of catalytic amounts of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), 2,4,4,6-tetrabromo-2,5-cyclohexadienone (TABCO), or Br(2) as the source of electrophilic bromine.
