Article Synopsis
  • This study aims to compare the effects of ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injections with ozone injections for treating carpal tunnel syndrome in 40 patients.
  • Both treatment groups showed improvements in pain and function at 6 and 12 weeks, but only the corticosteroid group had significant objective improvements in nerve function and ultrasound measurements.
  • The findings suggest that while ozone injections can reduce pain similar to corticosteroids, corticosteroids may be more effective for measurable clinical improvements in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Introduction: Ozone has been recently used as a safe alternative treatment in musculoskeletal disorders with fewer adverse effects than corticosteroids. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of a single injection of ozone with that of a corticosteroid in the treatment of shoulder impingement.

Design: Thirty patients with shoulder pain and clinical signs and symptoms of impingement were randomly assigned into two groups: ultrasound-guided injection with ozone or corticosteroid.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on comparing the effectiveness of ozone injections versus corticosteroid injections for treating chronic plantar fasciitis (PF), a common cause of heel pain.
  • Thirty patients with chronic PF were randomly assigned to receive either corticosteroid or ozone injections, with assessments made on pain levels, daily activities, and ultrasound measurements before and after treatment at various intervals.
  • Results showed that while corticosteroid injections were more effective in the short term, ozone injections provided better long-term improvement in pain and function, suggesting their potential as a durable treatment option for chronic PF.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic multifactorial disease characterized by progressive joint degeneration. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection with oxygen-ozone injection in patients with knee OA. This double-blind randomized clinical trial was performed on 62 patients with knee OA.

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a common musculoskeletal disorder. This study was designed to compare the effects of aerobic exercise plus acupuncture with acupuncture alone in treatment of patients with MPS. Sixty-four patients (55 female and 9 male) with MPS in their neck and shoulders participated in the study with mean age of 33.

Objective: In this study, the clinical effectiveness of ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection "above" versus "below" the median nerve for treatment of patients with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome was compared.

Design: This prospective randomized double-blind clinical trial included 44 patients with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome. The subjects were randomly assigned to two groups to receive ultrasound-guided injection of 40 mg of triamcinolone either "above" or "below" the involved median nerve.
