Outcome of the incarcerated abdominal wall hernias managed by open and laparoscopic approaches.

Background & Objective: Laparoscopic surgery is generally considered as better than open surgery in terms of less complications, minimal hospital stays and quick healing of the wounds. Our objective was to compare the immediate and early outcome of the different incarcerated hernias of anterior abdominal wall operated on as emergency cases by open and laparoscopic approach.

Methods: This is a retrospective comparative study which was conducted at two hospitals of AlAhsa city of the Eastern region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from July, 2017 to June, 2022.

Revisional Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy in failed gastric banding and effects of exercise and frequent sweet-eating on its outcome.

Objective: To find out effectiveness of revisional laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (RLSG) in the patients who had laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) and failed to reduce or regained the weight and effectiveness of sweet abstaining and exercise on postoperative weight loss.

Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at AlMoosa Hospital, Al-Ahsa, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from December 2011 to November 2016. The patients who failed to reduce, regained the weight or had complications after LAGB, were performed RLSG.

Examination under anesthesia for management of impalpable undescended testis: a traditional technique revisited.

Background: Many new tools for management of impalpable testes have emerged during the last few years, yet, not many studies have compared them to the traditional ways of managing this problem. This work aims to reiterate the importance of the physical examination under general anesthesia prior to the surgical procedure in order to decide the best surgical approach for patients with impalpable undescended testis, especially in developing countries where expensive investigations are at premium.

Patients And Methods: The study included boys who were treated consecutively and recorded prospectively from 2000 to 2010.

Saudi women's interest in breast cancer gene testing: possible influence of awareness, perceived risk and socio-demographic factors.

Background: Development of effective educational strategies should accompany increases in public awareness and the availability of genetic testing for breast cancer (BC). These educational strategies should be designed to fulfill the knowledge gap while considering factors that influence women's interest in order to facilitate decision making.

Objective: To determine the possible correlates of Saudi women's interest in BC genes testing including socio-demographics, the level of awareness towards BC genes, the family history of BC and the perceived personal risk among adult Saudi women in Al Hassa, Saudi Arabia.

Anterior abdominal wall leiomyoma arising de novo in a perimenopausal woman.

Extrauterine or extraintestinal leiomyomas are extremely uncommon especially in the pre-peritoneal area or within the anterior abdominal wall muscles. These tumors have been ascribed to intraoperative seeding during resection of a fibroid or a leiomyoma of gut, to exogenous hormone replacement therapy or a major derangement of glucose and/or lipid metabolism. So far, there is no published report of de novo origin of anterior abdominal wall pure leiomyoma in the literature.
