Background: The primary prevention of atrial fibrillation (AF), which increases mortality through complications including stroke and heart failure, is important. Excessive salt intake and low potassium intake are risk factors for cardiovascular disease; however, their association with AF remains inconclusive. This study investigated the association between sodium- and potassium-related urinary markers and AF prevalence.

The wide tunability of their luminescence wavelengths is attributed to the controllable bandgap of the solid solution between ZnS and AgInS. However, enhancement of the photoluminescence quantum yield (PL-QY) depending on the chemical composition has not been elucidated.

There have been no reports of breast cancer occurring in patients with vascular EDS. Here, we report here a very rare case of breast cancer in a patient with vascular EDS.

This cross-sectional study used data from the Tohoku Medical Megabank Community-based Cohort Study conducted in Japan. A total of 10,688 subjects aged ≥20 years were eligible.

Two prospective genome cohort studies in Miyagi prefecture have successfully recruited approximately 127,000 participants. The health status of these individuals was evaluated at the initial recruitment, and follow-up health checkups have been conducted every 5 years.

Home blood pressure (BP) is more reproducible and accurately predictive of cardiovascular diseases than office BP. Therefore, we focused on home BP and investigated whether depressive symptoms contributed to the future onset of home HT.

We examined the associations of combined genetic and lifestyle risks with hypertension and home hypertension. In a cross-sectional study of 7027 Japanese individuals aged ≥20 years, we developed a lifestyle score based on body mass index, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and sodium-to-potassium ratio, categorized into ideal, intermediate, and poor lifestyles.

However, the difference between the relation of upper extremity muscle and of lower extremity muscle with physiological factors is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between physiological data and muscle strength, measured using grip and leg extension strength, among Japanese adults.

Abstract: When performing pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with radiofrequency, left atrial posterior wall on the vertebra is often difficult to obtain stable tissue contact with ablation-catheter because of the movement of the ablation point.
Objective: Age-related changes in the fiber structure around adipocytes were investigated via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of excised skin tissues. In addition, the viscoelasticity of the subcutaneous fat layer was evaluated via elastography, and the association between the fiber structure and the viscoelastic properties was assessed.
Methods: Skin tissues excised from the facial cheek area were used.
This study aimed to examine whether risk of withdrawal from HTTx was higher in coastal areas that were severely damaged by tsunami than in inland areas. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 9218 participants aged ≥20 years in Miyagi, Japan. The odds ratios (ORs) and confidence interval (CI) for withdrawal from HTTx in coastal and inland groups were compared using multivariate logistic regression analysis, adjusting for potential confounders.

However, significance of cytoplasmic-ER immunoreactivity has not been reported in ER-negative breast carcinoma tissues. We immunolocalized cytoplasmic ER in 155 ER-negative breast carcinoma tissues and evaluated its clinicopathological significance including the prognosis.

A recent study showed that thoracic epidural block (TEB) suppressed the occurrence of major complications after pleurectomy/decortication (P/D) for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) under general anesthesia. To investigate the mechanisms underlying the correlation, both acute inflammatory status and intraoperative nociception were evaluated in the present study. In a single-institutional observational study, consecutive adult patients undergoing P/D were enrolled from March 2019 to April 2022.

The photoperiodic mechanism distinguishes between long and short days, and the circadian clock system is involved in this process. Although the necessity of circadian clock genes for photoperiodic responses has been demonstrated in many species, how the clock system contributes to photoperiodic mechanisms remains unclear. A comprehensive study, including the functional analysis of relevant genes and physiology of their expressing cells, is necessary to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms.

In these nanocrystal solids, unique transport and optical phenomena occur due to quantum coupling of localized energy states, charge-carrier hopping, and electromagnetic interactions among closely arranged nanocrystals. In particular, the photoexcited carrier dynamics in nanocrystal solids is important because it significantly affects various device parameters.
