We retrospectively analyzed 216 previously untreated patients with cervical cancer treated by high dose-rate intracavitary irradiation between 1978 and 1986. Cumulative 5-year survivals in stage Ib, IIa, IIb, IIIa, IIIb and IVa were 72.3%, 88.

Although K1 correlated well with cerebral blood flow (CBF) measured by the 133Xe inhalation method (Xe-CBF) (r = 0.888), its value was underestimated by 28.

Treatment results for 37 patients with localized pancreatic carcinoma treated using electron beam intraoperative radiation therapy (EBIORT) with curative intent from 1978 to 1990 in National Shikoku Cancer Center Hospital and the related hospitals were presented in comparison with those of a control group comprising 40 patients treated with no use of EBIORT. With additional treatment of EBIORT, 37 patients survived longer than the control 40 patients (p less than 0.05 during the 19th and 31st month).

To evaluate the usefulness of Ga-67 citrate scintigraphy in the early detection of radiation pneumonitis, scintigrams from 103 patients who were treated with radiation therapy for lung cancer were retrospectively analyzed with regard to abnormal Ga-67 uptake after radiation therapy in sites other than the original or recurrent tumors. Sixteen (20%) of the 80 asymptomatic cases showed positive Ga-67 scintigrams. All of the other 23 symptomatic cases showed positive Ga-67 scintigrams.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFourier phase analysis has generally been used to investigate asynchronous emptying and filling in various heart diseases. A potential limitation of this form of analysis is curve fitting error, since a truncated Fourier series may not adequately describe the shape of a time-volume curve (TVC) and thus may produce errors in indices calculated from the fit. To overcome this problem, we developed a new method using Hilbert transform.

Sequential analysis of 111In-MoAb incubated in serum at 37 degrees C by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and electrophoresis revealed that the radioactivity gradually moved from the MoAb to a 70-90 kDa molecular weight fraction. DTPA inhibited the transchelation of 111In to this fraction.

Fifty-two patients with varicocele underwent embolotherapy using stainless steel coils. Forty-six of the patients complained of infertility, four of scrotal mass and two of scrotal pain. The procedure was successful in 42 of the 52 patients (81%).

Radioactivity at the injection site in the lower extremities was counted for 3 min at 10 min (A) and at 3 h (B) after injection, and clearance of 99Tcm-HSA was defined as (1-(B)/(A)) x 100(%).

The T2 relaxation times of 28 adrenal masses smaller than 5 cm obtained using a 1.5 Tesla MR imaging system were analysed to evaluate the ability of this parameter to characterize the tissue masses. The adrenal masses included 13 nonhyperfunctioning adenomas, five hyperfunctioning adenomas, five metastatic tumors, two pheochromocytomas, one nodular hyperplasia, one ganglioneuroma, and one cyst.

He was admitted for a second time with multiple subcutaneous tumors over his entire body in July, 1989. He had mild splenomegaly, but no hepatomegaly nor lymphadenopathy.

A case of massive hemoptysis due to pulmonary sequestration is presented. Initially, the diagnosis of sequestration was unsuspected and bronchial artery embolization was done for management of hemoptysis from the left lower lobe, but 4 days later massive hemoptysis recurred. Repeat arteriography, including a thoracoabdominal aortogram, revealed two large abdominal arteries penetrating the left diaphragm and feeding the lower lung.

One of them underwent a follow-up SPECT in a more stable state compared to the first SPECT. Another patient, with informed consent, underwent a follow-up SPECT in combination with pharmacologic activation with bemegride.

Following a preliminary study in healthy blood donors, we have performed serological HLA-A, B, C, DR and DQ typing using recombinant IL-2 activated T lymphocytes (IL-2.aTLs) in pediatric candidates for allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. In such patients, it is often difficult to obtain the quantity of lymphocytes required for HLA typing, particularly for class II typing using B lymphocytes, considering the timing of sampling and the volume of blood to be collected.

Five normals, 15 patients with prior myocardial infarction, 5 with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and 3 with dilated cardiomyopathy were studied. The systolic thickening ratio was calculated as [(end-systolic--end-diastolic pixel counts) divided by end-diastolic pixel counts], using the circumferential profile technique of both end-diastolic and end-systolic short axial images.

An ultrastructural study found not only round, but also elongated and drumstick-shaped alpha-granules and rod-like structures protruding from round alpha-granules. Some elongated alpha-granules showed distinctive cross-striations in the short axis with a periodicity in the order of 19-22 nm.
