In this study, we examined the relationship between polymorphisms in antioxidant enzymes, specifically glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPx1) and catalase (CAT), and the susceptibility to T2DM in a Saudi population from the Jazan Province.
Methods: A total of 419 participants were evaluated, including 247 T2DM patients and 172 controls.
The biggest cause of cancer deaths globally was lung cancer. New cancer fighting drugs are needed due to the rising number of cancer patients and cancer cells' treatment resistance. Two Cu(II) complexes, synthesized from ligands based on 2-aminomethyl benzimidazole and salicylaldehyde derivatives, were designed and evaluated for their effectiveness against A549 lung cancer.

Background: Alloimmunisation remains a major consequence of blood transfusion among sickle cell disease (SCD) and thalassemia patients due to the exposure to non-self-red blood cell (RBC) antigen. The complication is associated with transfusion reactions and delayed transfusion procedure because of the difficulty of finding compatible blood. This study aims to determine the prevalence of alloimmunisation to RBC and alloantibody specificities among SCD and thalassemia patients in, an endemic area of SCD and thalassemia, Jazan province of Saudi Arabia, from three major hospitals.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a group of inherited disorders characterized by the presence of abnormal hemoglobin S. Patients with SCD suffer from frequent episodes of anemia, chronic hemolysis, pain crisis, and vaso-occlusion. Additionally, SCD is associated with diverse and serious clinical complications, including thrombosis, which can lead to organ failure, increased morbidity, and eventually, mortality.

It is synthesized by the liver and belongs to the serine protease inhibitors, which are commonly referred to as the SERPINS superfamily. The antithrombin molecule comprises 432 amino acids and has a molecular weight of approximately 58 200 D.

In assisted reproductive techniques, the inclusion of protective antioxidants becomes crucial to mitigate potential cellular damage. This study aimed to explore the impact of supplementing vitamins E, C, and coenzyme Q10 into the oocyte culture medium, with the goal of ameliorating the adverse effects of heat stress on oocyte maturation and embryo development in dairy cattle.

However, following nucleation, heterochromatin can then propagate along the chromatin template in a sequence-independent manner in a reaction termed spreading. At the heart of this process are enzymes that deposit chemical information on chromatin, which attracts the factors that execute chromatin compaction and transcriptional or co/post-transcriptional gene silencing.

This case control study aimed to assess the impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), including hyperglycemia levels, on hematological parameters and complete blood count (CBC) derived parameters.
Methods: A total of 250 known diabetic patients from the Jazan Diabetic Center, Saudi Arabia, between January 2021 and December 2022, along with 175 healthy adult controls were recruited from Jazan Hospital's blood donation center.
In this study, it was hypothesized that the addition of an appropriate concentration of Y-27632 (a ROCK inhibitor) to the freezing extender prevents cryopreservation-induced apoptosis and improves embryonic development after fertilization (IVF). Semen samples were collected from five fertile Simmental bulls using an artificial vagina twice a week for 4 weeks. Selected samples were pooled and diluted with Tris-egg-yolk-glycerol (TEYG) extender containing different concentrations of Y-27632 (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 μM) and then frozen in liquid nitrogen.

The procoagulant activity of MVs is enhanced in the presence of tissue factor (TF). MVs and TF are active mediators that induce pro-inflammatory response and prothrombotic tendency and have been linked to the severity of several disorders, including malaria infection.

This sets mitochondrial dysfunction in the centerstage of numerous acquired and genetic diseases. Sickle cell disease is also being increasingly associated with mitochondrial anomalies and the pathophysiology of sickle cell disease finds mitochondria at crucial intersections in the pathological cascade.
