Re-evaluating prognostic factors for cervical cancer with lymph node metastasis: a Japanese multicenter cohort study based on FIGO 2018.

Background: In 2018, the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) revised its cervical cancer staging system to enhance clinical relevance, notably by categorizing lymph node metastases (LNM) as an independent stage IIIC. This multicenter study evaluates the prognostic implications of the FIGO 2018 classification within a Japanese cohort.

Methods: This study included 1468 patients with cervical cancer.

The correlation between discrepancies in clinical and pathological T stages and overall survival in upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma: Analysis of the hospital-based cancer registry data in Japan.

Objective: Our study assessed the correlation between discrepancies in clinical and pathological T stages and overall survival (OS) in patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), including renal pelvis (UCP) and ureter (UCU) carcinoma, treated with radical surgery.

Methods: We utilized data from the Japanese Hospital-Based Cancer Registry (HBCR) to identify UTUC cases (n = 2376), consisting of UCP cases (n = 1196) and UCU cases (n = 1180), diagnosed with cTa-3N0M0 between 2012 and 2013. All cases were histologically confirmed and treated solely with radical surgery, excluding any chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Introduction: School refusal is one of the serious problems with children's mental health, and various studies have examined its prevalence and factors among students. Although many studies suggested that anxiety and depression are deeply associated with school refusal, there is little agreement as to effective interventions. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of mindfulness yoga intervention in children with school refusal.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of 6797 consecutive patients with pT1a gastric cancers treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) at three institutions in Japan from January 2005 to August 2023.

The material concept of resin cements capable of disintegrating due to near-infrared (NIR) radiation was verified. The cements were prepared by adding silicon carbide (SiC), which heats upon absorbing NIR rays, and thermally expandable particles (TEPs) to 4-META/MMA-TBB resin cement. The microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and cytocompatibility of the cements were evaluated.

This study evaluated the effects of HEMA and 10-MDP in the bonding agent in a 2-step self-etch adhesive system, Clearfil SE Bond 2, on water sorption (W) and elastic modulus (E) of the polymerized bonding agent. The microtensile bond strength (µTBS) to dentin was also evaluated initially and after 10,000 thermal cycles (TC10,000). Internal Temperature of Neonatal Endotracheal Tube Predicted by Infrared Thermography: A Neonatal Bench Study.

Introduction: Neonatal ventilators are managed by monitoring the inspiratory gas temperature with a probe placed outside the incubator, although the temperature decreases as the gases passe through the ventilator circuit extension tube and endotracheal tube (ETT). There are no established methods for measuring the internal temperature of the ETT. This bench study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using infrared thermography (IRT) to predict the internal temperature of the ETT.

Anti-integrin αvβ6 antibody as a biomarker for diagnosing ulcerative colitis: a nationwide multicenter validation study.

Background: A serum biomarker for diagnosing ulcerative colitis (UC) remains to be established. Although we recently reported an anti-integrin αvβ6 antibody (V6 Ab) for diagnosing UC with high sensitivity and specificity, no large-scale validation study exists. This study aimed to validate the diagnostic value of V6 Ab for UC using a nationwide multicenter cohort study.

Patients with metastatic ovarian cancer (OvCa) have a 5-year survival rate of <30% due to the persisting dissemination of chemoresistant cells in the peritoneal fluid and the immunosuppressive microenvironment in the peritoneal cavity. Here, we report that intraperitoneal administration of β-glucan and IFNγ (BI) induced robust tumor regression in clinically relevant models of metastatic OvCa. BI induced tumor regression by controlling fluid tumor burden and activating localized antitumor immunity.

A Case of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Detected After Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy in a Patient With Achalasia.

Achalasia, a chronic esophageal motility disorder, increases the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Despite effective treatment with peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), patients remain at risk of malignancy. We present the case of a 75-year-old Japanese woman diagnosed with achalasia who was found to have esophageal squamous cell carcinoma three months after POEM.

This study aimed to analyze painful situations, their frequency, and factors associated with patient discomfort during EGD. Phospholipase D2 downregulates interleukin-1β secretion from tumor-associated macrophages to suppress bladder cancer progression.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) modulates therapeutic response and prognosis in patients with bladder cancer (BC). The roles of two phospholipase D (PLD) isoforms, PLD1 and PLD2 (hydrolysis of phosphatidylcholine to phosphatidic acid), in cancer cells have been well-studied in numerous cancer types, but their roles in the TME remain unclear. We used a mouse BC Pld2-KO carcinogenesis model and global transcriptomic analysis to reveal that PLD2 was significantly involved in BC progression through immunosuppressive pathways in the TME.

Casein kinase 2 alpha (CK2α) is one of the driver kinases in various cancers, and it was previously demonstrated that CK2α localization was associated with a poor prognosis in invasive breast cancer. In the present study, the importance of CK2α in the nucleolus was explored as a potential prognostic marker for surgically resected early‑stage lung adenocarcinoma.

We report a human case of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus infection transmitted by a tick, confirmed by viral identification. Haemaphysalis aborensis, a tick species not native to Japan that has been observed to transmit the virus to humans, is now recognized as a potential vector of this virus in Japan.
