Article Synopsis
  • AMIGO2 is a protein that facilitates liver metastasis in tumor cells, and altering its expression impacts the cells’ ability to metastasize.
  • The study aimed to find ways to reduce liver metastasis by lowering AMIGO2 levels, testing 285 compounds and identifying five that effectively inhibit tumor cell adhesion to the liver.
  • Among these, the clinically available drug ruxolitinib was found to significantly reduce AMIGO2 expression and could effectively prevent liver metastasis in both mouse and human cancer cells.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers identified AMIGO2 as a key driver gene in liver metastasis and poor outcomes for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients.
  • The study explored how AMIGO2 promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which enhances the invasion potential of CRC cells, primarily through the activation of the TGFβ/Smad signaling pathway.
  • Findings indicate that AMIGO2 is significantly expressed in the invasive front of tumors and its nuclear presence is linked to EMT marker expression, suggesting it could be targeted for therapies aiming to inhibit metastasis in CRC.

Background: Behavioural parent training (BPT) is a psychosocial intervention designed for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). BPT programs teach parents to use effective commands or rules whilst encouraging them to pay careful attention to their child's appropriate behaviour. In this study, we will investigate the efficacy of BPT on parental stress, mothers' sense of emotional closeness to their children, and children's attachment security to their mothers.

Wild-type transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTRwt-CM) is a progressive and infiltrative cardiac disorder that may cause fatal consequences if left untreated. The estimated survival time from diagnosis is approximately 3-6 years. Because of the non-specificity of initial symptom manifestation and insufficient awareness among treating physicians, approximately one-third of patients with ATTRwt-CM are initially misdiagnosed with other cardiac diseases.

Although oxytocin may provide a novel therapeutics for the core features of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), previous results regarding the efficacy of repeated or higher dose oxytocin are controversial, and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The current study is aimed to clarify whether repeated oxytocin alter plasma cytokine levels in relation to clinical changes of autism social core feature. Here we analyzed cytokine concentrations using comprehensive proteomics of plasmas of 207 adult males with high-functioning ASD collected from two independent multi-center large-scale randomized controlled trials (RCTs): Testing effects of 4-week intranasal administrations of TTA-121 (A novel oxytocin spray with enhanced bioavailability: 3U, 6U, 10U, or 20U/day) and placebo in the crossover discovery RCT; 48U/day Syntocinon or placebo in the parallel-group verification RCT.

Combined addition of interstitial-substitutional elements has been acknowledged to contribute to the increase in the strengths of steels. For further improvements in mechanical properties, their atomic-scale interaction mechanisms with dislocations are required to be examined. In this study, both high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and atom-probe tomography were used to correlate interstitial-substitutional elements with dislocation characteristics in austenitic stainless steels.

  • Frozen shoulder (FS) is a painful condition affecting mainly those aged 40-60, and while physical therapy (PT) is often recommended, some patients still experience long-term pain and dysfunction.
  • This study involved 102 patients with severe FS, comparing the effectiveness of manipulation under anesthesia (MUB) versus PT over one year, measuring pain, range of motion, and overall shoulder function at multiple follow-ups.
  • Results showed that MUB significantly improved pain and shoulder function compared to PT, with lower associated costs ($1375 for MUB vs $2751 for PT) and better quality of life outcomes.

Frozen shoulder (FS) is a common disorder characterized by spontaneous onset of shoulder pain accompanied by progressive loss of range-of-motions. The cause of FS is still unclear, and radical therapy has not been established. With the final aim of preventing or curing FS at an earlier stage, we reviewed the pathological and biological features of this disease.
