Patients with obesity have high cortisol levels, and its dysregulation is caused by increased 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1) levels. The effects and mechanism of J2H-1702, an 11β-HSD1 inhibitor, on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) were explored.

Methods: We pooled data from 2 prospective randomized controlled trials involving 220 patients (110 in each group) who underwent single-level lumbar surgery. Participants aged 20-80 years with radiating pain due to lumbar disc herniation or spinal stenosis were included in this study.
Vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) is a rare but serious public health concern. We describe a VRSA case in North Carolina, USA. The isolate from the case belonged to the USA600 lineage and clonal complex 45.

Materials And Methods: Between January 2020 and December 2021, 85 patients who had undergone unilateral THA for osteoarthritis or osteonecrosis of the femoral head were enrolled. Using a 3D modeler program, automatically generated 3D reconstructed images of the hip muscles were obtained, and volumetric measurements were performed.
This study aimed to elucidate the clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with toxoplasmosis in Korea. We collected and analyzed the specific research data of 5,917 patients from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment (HIRA; 2007-2020) and 533 electronic medical records (EMRs; 2003-2021) of Korean patients. The HIRA data showed that toxoplasmosis is an endemic disease that occurs constantly in Korea, with a large proportion of patients complaining of ocular symptoms.

Background And Objectives: This retrospective review study aimed to determine whether functional mobility test (FMT) results are related to the incidence of proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) after surgical correction of adult spinal deformity (ASD).
Methods: A total of 157 patients who underwent reconstructive spinal surgery for ASD between July 2019 and December 2021 were included in this study. Three types of FMTs were performed preoperatively: timed-up-and-go (TUG) test, five times sit-to-stand (STS) test, and alternate step (AS) test.
Air pollution, particularly fine particulate matter less than 2.5 μm in diameter (PM), contributes to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and poses significant public health risks worldwide. This study evaluated the short-term effects of PM on hospital admissions for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, with additional analyses to identify vulnerable populations based on regional characteristics.

We introduce a bioelectronic interface between biological electrogenic cells and a mixed-signal CMOS integrated circuit with an array of surface electrodes, where not only is the CMOS electrode array capable of electrophysiological recording and stimulation of the cells with 1,024 recording and stimulation channels, but it can also provide low-latency artificial signal pathways from cells it records to cells it stimulates. This on-chip closed-loop modulation has an intrinsic latency less than 5 μs. To demonstrate the utility of the on-chip closed loop modulation as an artificial feedback pathway between biological cells, we develop a silicon-cardiomyocyte self-sustained oscillator with a tunable frequency to which both the relevant part of the CMOS chip and cells are locked, and also a silicon-neuron interface with a silicon inhibitory connection between neuronal cells.

As such, interventions that restore proteostasis should slow down the aging process and improve healthspan. Two of the most broadly used anti-aging interventions that are effective in organisms from yeast to mammals are calorie restriction (CR) and rapamycin (RM) treatment.

Few studies have investigated the necessity of a void for bone graft in fusion surgery. Therefore, the present study assessed the clinical and radiographic outcomes of window and non-window-type 3D-Ti cages in single-level posterior lumbar interbody fusion.

Methods: This prospective observational study included 202 elderly patients scheduled for lumbar spine surgery. Muscle indices for psoas, paraspinal, and gluteal muscles were measured using multiaxial computed tomography.
Objective: A Virtual Patient Tour (VPT) was developed to inform cardiac surgery patients about their hospitalization from the admission to their postoperative stay on the ward. The objective of our study was to assess the feasibility and acceptability of this VPT following the framework of the Virtual Reality Clinical Outcomes Research Experts Committee.
Methods: In this single-centre cross-sectional study, adult patients admitted to the hospital for elective cardiac surgery were included.
Calorie restriction (CR) and treatment with rapamycin (RM), an inhibitor of the mTORC1 growth-promoting signaling pathway, are known to slow aging and promote health from worms to humans. At the transcriptome and proteome levels, long-term CR and RM treatments have partially overlapping effects, while their impact on protein phosphorylation within cellular signaling pathways have not been compared. Here we measured the phosphoproteomes of soleus, tibialis anterior, triceps brachii and gastrocnemius muscles from adult (10 months) and 30-month-old (aged) mice receiving either a control, a calorie restricted or an RM containing diet from 15 months of age.

We describe eMDRO clusters in SARS-CoV-2 units and associated infection control (IC) practices early in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective survey of a convenience sample of health departments in 11 states to describe clusters of eMDROs that began before November 1, 2020 and involved SARS-CoV-2 units.
The endothelin receptor type B (ET) exhibits promiscuous coupling with various heterotrimeric G protein subtypes including Gs, Gi/o, Gq/11, and G12/13. Recent fluorescence and structural studies have raised questions regarding the coupling efficiencies and determinants of these G protein subtypes. Herein, by utilizing an integrative approach, combining hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry and NanoLuc Binary Technology-based cellular systems, we investigated conformational changes of Gs, Gi, and Gq triggered by ET activation.

Its economical build lends itself well to space-constrained machine vision applications. The curved sensor, much akin to the retina, helps image focusing, but the curvature also creates a problem of image distortion, which can undermine machine vision tasks such as object recognition.

In our previous study, we conducted a randomized controlled crossover trial to compare the short-term (4-weeks) effects of the balanced Korean diet (BKD) with Western diets, including the 2010 dietary guidelines for Americans (2010 DGA) and typical American diet (TAD), on various metabolic indices in obese Korean adults. Building on this work, the current research focuses on the impact of these dietary interventions on oxidative stress (d-ROMs and BAP) and inflammation (CRP, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, MCP-1) biomarkers in serum, and the concurrent urine metabolomes.

The gate loop in arrestins is a critical region for both stabilization of the basal state and interaction with phosphorylated receptors. We investigated the roles of specific residues in the gate loop (K292, K294, and H295) using β-arrestin-1 and phosphorylated C-tail peptide of vasopressin receptor type 2 (V2Rpp) as a model system.
