Purpose: There are no effective treatment options for patients with aggressive epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) driven by the TAZ-CAMTA1 (TC) fusion gene. Here, we aimed to understand the regulation of TC using pharmacologic tools and identify vulnerabilities that can potentially be exploited for the treatment of EHE.

Experimental Design: TC is a transcriptional coregulator; we hypothesized that compounds that reduce TC nuclear levels, either through translocation of TC to the cytoplasm, or through degradation, would render TC less oncogenic.

Purpose: Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a vascular sarcoma caused by the WWTR1(TAZ)-CAMTA1 (TC) gene fusion. This fusion gene has been observed in almost all reported EHE cases and functions as a constitutively activated TAZ. Sequencing of human tumors has, however, identified additional secondary mutations in approximately 50% of EHE, most commonly the loss of tumor suppressor CDKN2A.

Purpose: A consistent genetic alteration in vascular cancer epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is the t(1;3)(p36;q25) chromosomal translocation, which generates a WWTR1(TAZ)-CAMTA1 (TC) fusion gene. TC is a transcriptional coactivator that drives EHE. Here, we aimed to identify the TC transcriptional targets and signaling mechanisms that underlie EHE tumorigenesis.

Parental care can be partitioned into traits that involve direct engagement with offspring and traits that are expressed as an extended phenotype and influence the developmental environment, such as constructing a nursery. Here, we use experimental evolution to test whether parents can evolve modifications in nursery construction when they are experimentally prevented from supplying care directly to offspring. We exposed replicate experimental populations of burying beetles () to different regimes of posthatching care by allowing larvae to develop in the presence (Full Care) or absence of parents (No Care).

Unlabelled: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a variable course across the United States. Understanding its evolving impact on heart and lung transplantation (HT and LT) will help with planning for next phases of this pandemic as well as future ones.

Methods: We used Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients data from before the pandemic to predict the number of waitlist registrations and transplants expected to occur between March 15, 2020, and December 31, 2020 (if no pandemic had occurred), and compared these expectations to observed rates.

Background: While several studies have observed that solid organ transplant recipients experience diminished antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination, data specific to heart and lung transplant (HT/LT) recipients remains sparse.

Methods: US adult HT and LT recipients completed their vaccine series between January 7 and April 10, 2021. Reactogencity and SARS-CoV-2 anti-spike antibody were assessed after a priming dose (D1) and booster dose (D2).

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a genetically homogenous vascular sarcoma that is a paradigm for TAZ dysregulation in cancer. EHE harbors a (TAZ)- gene fusion in >90% of cases, 45% of which have no other genetic alterations. In this study, we used a first of its kind approach to target the gene fusion to the locus, to develop a conditional EHE mouse model whereby is controlled by the endogenous transcriptional regulators upon Cre activation.

Although reliable strategies exist to promote healthy habits that reduce childhood obesity, the sustainability of these strategies remains an ongoing public health challenge. This study aimed to identify factors experienced in a large, multisite project aimed at reducing childhood obesity that might contribute to project sustainability. Hypothesized constructs underpinning sustainability included replicability, continuation of benefits, institutionalization, and community capacity.

Background: In the context of health-related interventions, sustainability is the capacity to maintain the changes resulting from the intervention. These can be improved policies, practices or trends intended to improve population health. The Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (CORD) project was a multi-site, multi-intervention collaboration testing the Obesity Chronic Care Model with interventions for childhood obesity prevention and management.

A systematic study of the cellular uptake of emissive complexes as a function of their lipophilicity is presented. Here a series of amphiphilic rhenium fac-tricarbonyl bisimine complexes bearing axial substituted imidazole or thiazole ligands, [Re(bpy)(CO)3(ImCnHm)]+ {n = 1 m = 3 (1+), n = 4 m = 9 (2+), n = 8 m = 17 (3+), n = 12 m = 25 (4+), n = 16 m = 33 (5+), n = 2 m = 3 (6+); bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, Im = imidazole} and [Re(bpy)(CO)3(L)]+ {L = 1-mesitylimidazole, ImMes (7+), 4,5-dimethylthiazole, dmt (8+) and 4-methyl-5-thiazole-ethanol, mte (9+)} is reported. The X-ray crystal structures of 2+, 8+ and 9+ confirm the geometry and expected distribution of ligands and indicated that the plane of the imidazole/thiazole ring is approximately parallel to the long axis of the bipy ligand.

A series of substituted 2-phenylquinoxaline ligands have been explored to finely tune the visible emission properties of a corresponding set of cationic, cyclometallated iridium(III) complexes. The electronic and redox properties of the complexes were investigated through experimental (including time-resolved luminescence and transient absorption spectroscopy) and theoretical methods. The complexes display absorption and phosphorescent emissions in the visible region that are attributed to metal to ligand charge-transfer transitions.

Pollinator abundance is declining worldwide and may lower the quantity and quality of pollination services to flowering plant populations. Loss of an important pollinator is often assumed to reduce the amount of pollen received by stigmas of a focal species (pollination success), yet this assumption has rarely been tested experimentally. The magnitude of the effect, if any, may depend on the relative efficiency of the remaining pollinators, and on whether the loss of one pollinator leads to changes in visitation patterns by other pollinators.

Fisherian selection is a within-population process that promotes signal-preference coevolution and speciation due to signal-preference genetic correlations. The importance of the contribution of Fisherian selection to speciation depends in part on the answer to two outstanding questions: What explains differences in the strength of signal-preference genetic correlations? And, how does the magnitude of within-species signal-preference covariation compare to species differences in signals and preferences? To address these questions, we tested for signal-preference genetic correlations in two members of the Enchenopa binotata complex, a clade of plant-feeding insects wherein speciation involves the colonization of novel host plants and signal-preference divergence. We used a full-sibling, split-family rearing experiment to estimate genetic correlations and to analyze the underlying patterns of variation in signals and preferences.

Objectives: We developed the policy indicator checklist (PIC) to identify and measure policies for calorie-dense foods and sugar-sweetened beverages to determine how policies are clustered across multiple settings.

Methods: In 2012 and 2013 we used existing literature, policy documents, government recommendations, and instruments to identify key policies. We then developed the PIC to examine the policy environments across 3 settings (communities, schools, and early care and education centers) in 8 communities participating in the Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration Project.

Eight cationic heteroleptic iridium(III) complexes, [Ir(epqc)2(N^N)](+), were prepared in high yield from a cyclometalated iridium bridged-chloride dimer bearing two ethyl-2-phenylquinoline-4-carboxylate (epqc) ligands. Two X-ray crystallographic studies were undertaken on selected complexes (where the ancillary ligand N^N = 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine and 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) each confirming the proposed formulations, showing an octahedral coordination at Ir(III). In general, the complexes are luminescent (620-630 nm) with moderately long lifetimes indicative of phosphorescence.
