Background: While most studies in pediatric urology investigate the clinical results, very few explore the relationship between surgery and quality of life and psychosocial well-being in pediatric urology practice. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is often comorbid with a number of other psychiatric conditions. The goal of this study was to investigate whether motor skills, manual dexterity, and visual perception differ in the presence of ADHD and comorbid psychiatric conditions in school-age boys by comparing them to a group of children with typical development (TD). We evaluated 81 boys 6 to 10 years of age in 5 groups: ADHD only (n=18); ADHD+specific learning disorders (ADHD+SLDs) (n=17); ADHD+oppositional defiant disorder (n=16); ADHD+anxiety disorders (n=15); and TD (n=15).

Cataplexy is a brief episode of bilateral loss of muscle tone with intact consciousness, triggered by a variety of strong emotions such as anger, laugh, humor or surprise and it is considered to represent the physiologic atonia of rapid eye movement sleep. On the other hand, Niemann-Pick type C is a neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disease, characterized by the accumulation of cholesterol and glycosphingolipids. Cataplexy is a relatively specific and common neurologic sign seen in almost 50% of all patients with Niemann-Pick type C.

We present a case of remitting brief psychotic disorder in a 15 year old male, who had 4 phenomenologically alike episodes consisting of the following symptoms; sudden onset, unstructured delusions, hallucinations, clouding of consciousness, and a rapid return to his premorbid level of functioning. No evidence was found indicating a metabolic disease or a neurological disorder. The diagnostic criteria of brief psychotic disorder were fulfilled, although the clinical picture could not be described adequately by using only DSM-IV criteria.
