Many disease-relevant and functionally well-validated targets are difficult to drug. Their poorly defined 3D structure without deep hydrophobic pockets makes the development of ligands with low molecular weight and high affinity almost impossible. For these targets, incorporation into a ternary complex may be a viable alternative to modulate and in most cases inhibit their function.

The role of circadian rhythm proteins Rev-Erbα and β in the development of neuronal injury after traumatic brain injury.

Background/aim: Circadian rhythm proteins (CRPs) play critical roles in both physiological and pathophysiological conditions, including neurodegenerative disorders. As members of CRPs, the nuclear receptors Rev-Erbα/β regulate circadian rhythm particularly by inhibiting Bmal1 protein and are involved in the neuroinflammation and cell death processes. However, their roles in the development of neuronal injury after traumatic brain injury (TBI) were largely unexplored, and so were investigated in the present study.

In this context, vinpocetine (VPN), derived from Vinca minor, exhibits notable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Facile and mild synthesis of linear and cyclic peptides via thioesters.

Thioester-mediated peptide bond formation has recently garnered a lot of attention, most notably in its relevance to condensation of large peptide fragments. Herein, a simple and general ligation method for the preparation of linear and cyclic peptides, starting from peptide thioester, mainly p-chlorophenyl, precursors is reported. The inherent advantages of this method are the low epimerization, reduced dimerization, use of mild reaction conditions, and elimination of superfluous coupling reagents.

A new species of Euscorpius Thorell, 1876 (Scorpiones, Euscorpiidae) from Turkey.

A new species of the genus Euscorpius Thorell, 1876is described based on specimens collected from Dilek Peninsula (Davutlar, Aydın) in Turkey. It is characterized by an oligotrichous trichobothrial pattern (Pv= 7, et= 5/6, eb= 4) and small size. Euscorpius (Euscorpius) avciisp.

A new species of Buthus Leach, 1815 from Cyprus (Scorpiones, Buthidae).

During the last decade, several contributions to the genus Buthus Leach, 1815 (family Buthidae) and especially to the 'Buthus occitanus' species complex were proposed. These contributions led to the definition of several species, previously considered only as subspecies or varieties, and also to the description of new species. In the present study, the questionable presence of the genus Buthus in the Cyprus is rediscussed and a new species Buthus kuntisp.
