Expression of Stromal Caveolin- 1 May Be a Predictor for Aggressive Behaviour of Breast Cancer.

Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) is well known as a principal scaffolding protein of caveolae which are specialized plasma membrane structures. The role of Cav-1 in tumorigenesis of breast cancers is relatively less studied. The aim of the present study is to describe the biological roles of Cav-1 in breast cancers considering its contrasting dual functions as an oncogene and as a tumor suppressor.

Regulatory T cells and their prognostic value in hepatopancreatobiliary tumours.

Background/aims: The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic values of Foxp3+ Treg cells, CD4+ Tcells and CD8+ T cells in cancer cases of gallbladder, pancreas and liver.

Methodology: This study included 20 patients with gallbladder cancer, 25 patients with pancreatic cancer and 8 patients with liver cancer. Foxp3, CD4 and CD8 were immunohistochemically evaluated and compared with histopathological and clinical prognostic parameters.

Matrix metalloproteinase enzymes (MMPs) activated by oxidative stress are involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Glutathione (GSH) plays an important protective role against oxidatively induced damage in mammalian tissues. We investigated the possible role of gelatinases and the effect of the semiessential amino acid 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid (taurine) in oxidatively induced damage by GSH depletion in rabbit cardiac tissues.
