The peripheral anionic site (PAS) of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is involved in amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides aggregation of Alzheimer's disease (AD). AChE exhibits an aryl acylamidase (AAA) activity along with the well known esterase activity. Numerous studies have reported the beneficiary effect of metal chelators in AD treatment.
