Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the albumin-bilirubin score in diagnosing intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, involving 413 participants divided into three groups: patients with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, those suspected of it, and healthy controls.* -
  • Results showed that the albumin-bilirubin score was significantly higher in patients with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy compared to the other groups, and there was a weak positive correlation between the score and bile acid levels.* -
  • Receiver operating characteristic analysis demonstrated that the albumin-bilirubin score effectively predicts intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, with a sensitivity of 69% and a specificity of 64%, resulting in a

Objective: To evaluate the association of the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII), Systemic Immune-Response Index (SIRI), and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) with Cesarean Scar Pregnancy (CSP) METHODS: This prospective case-control study was conducted in Ankara City Hospital perinatology clinic between 2022 and 2023. The diagnosis of CSP was made by transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound. NLR, SII, and SIRI values were compared between those diagnosed with CSP (n=23) and healthy pregnancies (n=126) at the time of first admission.

Objective: To compare fetal cardiac function in pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) vs healthy pregnant controls.

Methods: This was a single-center, prospective, case-control study conducted in a tertiary hospital between November 2022 and September 2023. Women diagnosed with IDA who attended as outpatients at the pregnancy follow-up clinic at 30-34 weeks' gestation or who were hospitalized for intravenous iron treatment owing to profound anemia were included.

Purpose: To develop a new cost-effective marker named creatinine-fibrinogen ratio (CFR) for the prediction of composite adverse outcomes (CAO) in placental abruption cases.

Methods: A total of 109 placental abruption patients (30 with adverse outcomes, 79 without adverse outcomes) were enrolled in this retrospective cohort study. Patients with at least one of the features listed below were included in the abruption with CAO group: requirement of blood product transfusion (erythrocyte suspension, fresh frozen plasma, pooled thrombocyte, thrombocyte apheresis), development of acute kidney injury or disseminated intravascular coagulation, and need for intensive care unit.

Purpose: To determine the effects of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on fetal frontal lobe development.

Methods: This study was conducted prospectively between May 2023 and August 2023 in Ankara City Hospital perinatology clinic. Maternal age, maternal body mass index (BMI), gestational week (GW), biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), femur length (FL), estimated fetal weight (EFW), frontal antero-posterior diameter (FAPD), occipito-frontal diameter (OFD), FAPD/OFD ratio, and FAPD/HC ratio, were compared between GDM (n = 40) and low risk controls (n = 56).

Introduction: The importance of eosinophils in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia is an question of interest and there are recent studies in the literature indicating significantly lower eosinophil count values in pregnant women with preeclampsia. The present study aims to evaluate the utility of first-trimester eosinophil count and eosinophil-based complete blood cell count indices in the prediction of preeclampsia.

Methods: Pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia (n = 281) were retrospectively compared with a control group (n = 307).

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate fetal cardiac output and myocardial performance index in pregnant women with idiopathic polyhydramnios and compare them to healthy pregnant women.

Methods: Thirty patients admitted to Ankara City Hospital at 24-39 weeks of gestation with idiopathic polyhydramnios were included as the study group. Clinical characteristics, fetal cardiac output, and fetal modified myocardial performance index (Mod-MPI) were compared between the groups.

To evaluate the utility of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), and systemic immune-response index (SIRI) in the prediction of adverse pregnancy outcomes in pregnant women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This retrospective case-control study was conducted in Ankara City Hospital perinatology clinic between 2019 and 2023. First-trimester NLR, SII (NLR X platelet count), and SIRI (NLR X monocyte count) values were compared between pregnant women with SLE (n = 29) and low-risk controls (n = 110).

Introduction: The eradication of the middle ear disease is mentioned as the fundamental principle of tympanoplasty. The presence of some factors related to patient or disease itself forces the physician to classify the chronic ear disease as high-risk perforations. The aim of this study was to present a tri-layer tympanoplasty technique and its otological and audiological outcomes in the ears with high-risk perforations.

Aims: Olfaction and gustation in patients with diabetes mellitus have great significance on quality of life, and their impairment may result in possible hazards. A limited number of studies have been performed to determine the alteration of both gustatory and olfactory function in type 2 diabetic patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). The aim of this study was to determine whether type 2 diabetic patients, with and without DPN, exhibit major olfactory and gustatory dysfunction using validated and dependable techniques.

Introduction: Aminoglycosides (AGs) have been widely used for potential life-threatening bacterial infections. Although AGs are well known for their ototoxic side effects, some AGs such as amikacin are considered less harmful to auditory functions; thus, auditory monitoring is mostly neglected during treatment with these drugs.

Objective: To reflect the potential auditory hazards of repeated amikacin use on the patients with cystic fibrosis (CF).
