Artifical intelligence use in orthopedics: an ethical point of view.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being utilized in orthopedics practice. Ethical concerns have arisen alongside marked improvements and widespread utilization of AI. Patient privacy, consent, data protection, cybersecurity, data safety and monitoring, bias, and accountability are some of the ethical concerns.

How Long Do Octogenarians Benefit From Knee Arthroplasty?

Introduction Elderly patients are more prone to surgical risk regardless of the procedure. The overall mortality rate is expected to be high in this population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival rates of octogenarians who underwent knee arthroplasty procedures.

The fate of fibular osteotomies performed during high tibial osteotomy.

Introduction: High tibial osteotomy (HTO) is an important treatment alternative in isolated single compartment knee osteoarthritis. To achieve adequate mechanical axis corrections in the lower extremity fibula is also osteotomized concomitantly. The aim of this study was to compare the union rates of proximal and diaphyseal fibular osteotomies accompanying high tibial osteotomies.

Increased turn/amplitude parameters following subvastus approach in total knee arthroplasty.

Purpose: To compare the improvement of the vastus medialis component of the quadriceps muscle electrophysiologically after the subvastus and medial parapatellar approaches in total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Methods: A total 26 patients that underwent primary unilateral in TKA were included into the study. TKAs were carried out via subvastus approach in 15 patients, while 11 patients were operated via medial parapatellar approach.

Bilateral total knee arthroplasty with modified primary components in the management of neuropathic arthropathy related to chronic pancreatitis: a case with 5-year follow-up.

Although neuropathic arthropathy of the foot and ankle joints in diabetes is well known, the involvement of the knee joint is rare. Then, the management, particularly the use of arthroplasty, is a matter of debate. We report a 51-year-old man with neuroarthropathic involvement of both knees related to the chronic pancreatitis treated by modified primary total knee arthroplasty components using augments and extension stems only on the tibial side.

[Osteotomies in the treatment of osteochondral lesions of the knee joint].

Excellent results of total knee arthroplasty have outweighed high tibial osteotomy applications in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee joint, but there is a growing interest in osteotomies as an adjunct in the treatment of full-thickness chondral and osteochondral lesions of the knee. Abnormal biomechanics in both tibiofemoral and patellofemoral articulations resulting from instability and malalignment should be corrected and osteotomy should be regarded as the first step in the treatment of these lesions. A simultaneous or staged osteotomy may contribute to the success of current techniques used for cartilage and osteochondral repair.

[Heterotopic ossification after total knee arthroplasty].

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence, time to development and clinical presentation of heterotopic ossification (HO) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive radiographs of 226 knees that were obtained at the end of sixth week, third, sixth, and twelfth months following TKA. The radiographic diagnosis of HO was based on the comparison of pre- and postoperative serial radiographs.

Tibial slope changes following dome-type high tibial osteotomy.

The tibial slope is essential in knee biomechanics, both for ligament function and knee kinematics. High tibial osteotomy (HTO) designed primarily to correct frontal plane malalignment in osteoarthritis of the knee joint can cause unintentional tibial slope changes. We evaluated tibial slope changes in 40 knees in patients with medial compartment osteoarthritis treated by dome-type HTO and external fixation on one side, and followed up for 55 months on average.
