The present work deals with the optimization of basic fuchsin dye removal from an aqueous solution using the ultraviolet UV/HO process. Response Surface Modeling (RSM) based on Box-Behnken experimental design (BBD) was applied as a tool for the optimization of operating conditions such as initial dye concentration (10-50 ppm), hydrogen peroxide dosage (HO) (10-20 mM/L) and irradiation time (60-180 min), at pH = 7.4 under ultra-violet irradiation (254 nm and 25 W intensity).

Optimum conditions for glucose syrups production from white sorghum were studied through sequential liquefaction and saccharification processes. In the liquefaction process, a maximum dextrose equivalent (DE) of 10.98 % was achieved using 30 % (w/v) of starch and Termamyl ɑ-amylase from Bacillus licheniformis.

Sewage treatment plants in Algeria produce huge quantities of sludge expressed in tons annually. This sludge produced is unfortunately contaminated because of the use of synthetic polyelectrolytes. Recently several kinds of research have been carried out on natural flocculants for sludge conditioning, because of several advantages they present such as their renewable source and their non-toxicity.

strains were isolated from freshwater sampled at four sites in Algeria and characterized by whole-genome sequencing and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The cells were spiral-shaped and motile. Phylogenetic and MALDI-TOF MS analyses showed that the strains can be clearly distinguished from the other described species in the genus a, therefore representing two novel species of the pathogen subclade P1 and two novel species of the saprophyte subclade S1.

The approach of the present work is based on the use of poly (methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) polymer, which is compatible with PVDF and TiO₂ nanoparticles in casting solutions, for the preparation of nano-composites membranes using a safer and more compatible solvent. TiO₂ embedded poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/PMMA photocatalytic membranes were prepared by phase inversion method. A non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) coupled with vapor induced phase separation (VIPS) was used to fabricate flat-sheet membranes using a dope solution consisting of PMMA, PVDF, TiO₂, and triethyl phosphate (TEP) as an alternative non-toxic solvent.

Four aqueous extracts of different plant organs are the following: Artemisia herba-alba, Opuntia ficus-indica, Camellia sinensis and Phlomis crinita were evaluated against two bacterial strains: Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella intermedia, which are implicated in periodontal diseases. By using a disc method, these plant extracts demonstrated powerful bacterial activity against these Gram-negative strains. The minimum inhibitory concentration values of the four plant extracts varied between 0.

The present study enlightens the role of the antagonistic potential of nonpathogenic strain B21 against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) consortium. The inhibitor effects of strain B21 were compared with those of the chemical biocide tetrakishydroxymethylphosphonium sulfate (THPS), generally used in the petroleum industry. The biological inhibitor exhibited much better and effective performance.
