Key performance indicators for monitoring of anemia management and iron status in children attending a pediatric dialysis unit: the experience of Ain Shams University.

Background: Anemia in children on maintenance hemodialysis (HD) leads to poor quality of life. Our study aimed to assess and monitor anemia and iron status management in children on maintenance HD over 18 months using key performance indicators.

Methods: Key performance indicators, formulated as the percentage of patients achieving the KDIGO (2012) guideline-recommended targets for hemoglobin (Hb) (11-12 g/dl), transferrin saturation (TSAT) (20-40%) and serum ferritin (200-500 ng/ml), were reported quarterly over the 18-month-period of this study.

Tumors occurring in the submandibular space are infrequent among pediatric patients, and benign peripheral nerve tumors in this region are exceptionally rare. This study describes the uncommon occurrence of a schwannoma in the submandibular space in a child and describes its management. A 7-year-old child presented with a gradually enlarging swelling over a 7-month period in the submandibular region, clinically resembling a salivary gland tumor.

A total of 248 participants were recruited through primary care centers and received five weekly scheduled proactive behavioral counseling calls from personnel trained in tobacco cessation and navigation to obtain cessation pharmacotherapy from clinics.

This study examines factors associated with baseline self-efficacy among treatment seeking participants enrolled in a pilot feasibility smoking cessation study. An examination of the human gait is feasible using inertial sensing. The embedded accelerometer and gyroscope in an inertial measurement unit can evaluate physical activity-based sports and this unit is relatively affordable compared to global positioning systems or video recording quantification. This study developed a cost-effective sports monitoring investigation method with an inertial sensor attached to the right leg of the athletes.

Paediatric anterior larynx: presentations, associations and a review of the literature.

Objective: The literature on the entity of the anterior larynx (AL) is restricted to little evidence on the difficulty encountered in exposing the larynx for intubation, perioperative morbidity and mortality, and scant reports on its prevalence in general adults and children. Here, we describe the prevalence of AL in a series of children presenting with aerodigestive symptoms and explore its association with functional abnormalities, congenital and structural anomalies or conditions.

In Qatar, tobacco is the leading preventable cause of death and disease. Telephone-based interventions for smoking are cost-effective and scalable interventions that are effective in promoting smoking behavior change. While many countries have implemented these services within their tobacco control programs, there is a distinct dearth of a telephone-based smoking cessation intervention that is adapted and tailored to meet the needs of people who smoke in Qatar.

Background: Inferior turbinoplasty (IT) and adenoidectomy (Ad) are frequently resorted to in children with chronic rhinitis (CR) refractory to medical therapy.
