Individuals employ various coping mechanisms to deal with the fear of death. While materialism and status consumption are commonly recognized in the literature as such strategies, no study has yet empirically tested this premise. Accordingly, this study examined the mediating role of death avoidance in the link between the fear of death and death-related status consumption (DRSC).

Although the need for uniqueness has been extensively investigated by consumer researchers, food and tourism researchers have been silent on this promising research topic. This study examined food neophilia and ethnic food involvement as potential mediators of the association between tourists' need for uniqueness (TNFU) and ethnic food purchase intention. Additionally, it was tested whether independent self-construal moderates this serial mediation effect.

Although it has been widely discussed in the literature, no scale has yet been developed to measure the consumption aspect of death. This study aims to develop a domain-specific death-related status consumption (DRSC) scale to bridge this gap in the field. Results reveal the following three dimensions of the scale: conspicuousness, planning, and showing respect.

Background: Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer (ATC) is one of the most lethal and aggressive human malignancies. Studies have shown that Cancer Stem-Cell (CSC) phenotype is mainly responsible for ATC aggressiveness. Cytostatic compounds are mostly ineffective because of multidrug resistance mechanisms driven by the CSC phenotype.

Purpose: The purpose of this to investigate whether selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) has any effect on the success of trabeculectomy.

Patients And Methods: Thirteen-one eyes of 29 primary open-angle glaucoma patients who underwent SLT before trabeculectomy and 29 eyes of 27 patients with the same inclusion criteria which underwent trabeculectomy without prior SLT in the Sifa University and in the Batigöz Eye Hospital in January 2012 and November 2012 were reviewed. All patients underwent trabeculectomy for uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma with the same technique.

Purpose: The adipose tissue plays a role in carcinogenesis with the adipokines it generates. Apelin is an anti-obesigenic adipokine, and assumes roles in both vascularization and tumor cell proliferation. The present study aimed to investigate changes in apelin levels, in postmenopausal breast cancer (BC) patients receiving aromatase inhibitors (AIs).

Background: Several studies evaluating the prognostic factors of gastrointestinal and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) have been published. The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been accepted as prognostic factors for cancer patients.

Materials And Methods: This study included 132 patients diagnosed with GEP-NETs.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of resveratrol in a rat model of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and compare with cabergoline.

Design: Randomized controlled, animal study.

Animal(s): Female Wistar rats.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of letrozole and cabergoline in a rat model of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

Study Design: In this prospective, controlled experimental study, the 28 female Wistar rats were divided into four subgroups (one non-stimulated control and three OHSS-positive groups: placebo, letrozole, and cabergoline). To induce OHSS, rats were injected with 10 IU of pregnant mare serum gonadotropin from day 29 to day 32 of life, followed by subcutaneous injection of 30 IU hCG on day 33.

Objectives: To determine the efficacy of montelukast in comparison with cabergoline in the prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in rats.

Material And Methods: An experimental OHSS model was formed in 35 female Wistar rats. Rats (22 days old) were randomized into 5 groups, each containing 7 animals.

Background: Exposure to exogenous zinc results in increased apoptosis, growth inhibition, and altered oxidative stress in cancer cells. Previous studies also suggested that zinc sensitizes some cancer cells to cytotoxic agents depending on the p53 status. Therefore, zinc supplementation may show anticancer efficacy solely and may increase docetaxel-induced cytotoxicity in non-small-cell lung cancer cells.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between postpartum depression (PPD), infantile colic (IC) and different psychosocial variables, psychiatric symptoms, attachment style and perceived social support in expecting parents.

Method: Two hundred forty five expecting mothers and 150 expecting fathers were first interviewed between the 22-34 weeks of pregnancy. Sociodemografic data form, Adult Attachment Style Scale (AASS), State Anxiety Inventory (SAI), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) were filled out by each expecting parent.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of myo-inositol (MI) pretreatment in OHSS.

Methods: In this experimental OHSS rat model, 42 immature Wistar albino female rats were divided into 6 groups: (1) the control group, (2) the ovarian stimulation group, (3) the OHSS group, (4) the OHSS + Metformin group, (5) OHSS + MI group, (6) OHSS + Metformin + MI group. OHSS was established after treatment with metformin and myo-inositol for 14 days, in the meanwhile the treatment of metformin and myo-inositol was also continued.

Objective: Carotid stenosis is associated with hemodynamic cerebral ischemia. Diffusion-weighted MR imaging allows for the assessment of changes related to alterations in tissue integrity. The aim of this study was to investigate (a) whether white matter lesions (WML) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values differ between ipsilateral and contralateral hemispheres, (b) whether ADC values are related to WMLs and common vascular risk factors, and (c) whether ADC values differ after carotid endarterectomy (CEA) without a shunt in patients with unilateral internal carotid artery stenosis (ICAS).

Purpose: To investigate the effect of vitamin D in ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

Methods: In this animal study, 28 immature female Wistar rats were divided into four groups: group 1 (control); group 2 (ovarian stimulation); group 3 (OHSS group); group 4 (OHSS + vitamin D group). All groups were killed 48 h after hCG administration and were compared in terms of vascular permeability, ovarian weight, ovarian diameter, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression (immunohistochemistry) in ovarian tissue and pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) level in the serum (ELISA test) with the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of dehydration due to fasting on diurnal changes of intraocular pressure, anterior segment biometrics, and refraction.

Subjects And Methods: The intraocular pressures, anterior segment biometrics (axial length: AL; Central corneal thickness: CCT; Lens thickness: LT; Anterior chamber depth: ACD), and refractive measurements of 30 eyes of 15 fasting healthy male volunteers were recorded at 8:00 in the morning and 17:00 in the evening in the Ramadan of 2013 and two months later. The results were compared and the statistical analyses were performed using the Rstudio software version 0.
