In colloidal quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs), replacing organic hole transport layers (HTLs) with their inorganic counterparts is expected to yield distinct advantages due to their inherent material robustness. However, despite the promising characteristics of all-inorganic QD-LEDs, some challenges persist in achieving stable operation; for example, the electron overflow toward the inorganic HTL and charge accumulation within working devices return a temporal inconsistency in device characteristics. To address these challenges, we propose an operational approach that employs an alternating-current (AC) in all-inorganic QD-LEDs.

Structural deformation modifies the bandgap, exciton fine structure and phonon energy of semiconductors, providing an additional knob to control their optical properties. The impact can be exploited in colloidal semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), wherein structural stresses can be imposed in three dimensions while defect formation is suppressed by controlling surface growth kinetics. Yet, the control over the structural deformation of QDs free from optically active defects has not been reached.

Conventional chemotherapy methods have adverse off-target effects and low therapeutic efficiencies of drug release in target tumors. In this study, we proposed a combination therapy of doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded ultrasound (US)-sensitive liposomal nanocarriers (IMP301), microbubbles (MBs) under focused US exposure using convex acoustic lens-attached US (LENS) to tumor treatment. The therapeutic effects of each treatment in a murine melanoma model were evaluated using contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) imaging, bioluminescence and confocal microscopy imaging, and liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LC/MS) analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) can cause serious health issues, including end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and even death, but we don't have many tests to find out who is at high risk, especially if they don't have noticeable problems.
  • Researchers studied the urine of people with diabetes to see if a special test called urine adenine/creatinine ratio (UAdCR) could help identify those at risk for ESKD.
  • They found that higher levels of UAdCR were linked to higher chances of ESKD and that a medicine named empagliflozin could lower these levels, suggesting that adenine in the body might be a key player in causing kidney problems for people with diabetes.

Colloidal semiconductor nanomaterials present broadband, with large cross-section, two-photon absorption (2PA) spectra, which turn them into an important platform for applications that benefit from a high nonlinear optical response. Despite that, to date, the only means to control the magnitude of the 2PA cross-section is by changing the nanoparticle volume, as it follows a universal volume scale, independent of the material composition. As the emission spectrum is connected utterly to the nanomaterial dimensions, for a given material, the magnitude of the nonlinear optical response is also coupled to the emission spectra.

  • Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) can get really serious and lead to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), but it's hard to find tests for high-risk patients who don't show clear signs.
  • Scientists studied urine from diabetes patients to see if the amount of a substance called adenine in urine could help predict ESKD risks.
  • They found that high levels of adenine in urine were linked to more kidney problems, and a medicine reduced those levels, suggesting that adenine could be causing some kidney damage in diabetes.
