The emergence of early onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) is believed to result from the complex interplay between external environmental factors and internal molecular processes. This review investigates the potential association between environmental exposure to chemicals and climate change and the increased incidence of EOCRC, focusing on their effects on gut microbiota (GM) dynamics. The manuscript explores the birth cohort effect, suggesting that individuals born after 1950 may be at higher risk of developing EOCRC due to cumulative environmental exposures.

Cardiac amyloidosis, characterized by amyloid fibril deposition in the myocardium, leads to restrictive cardiomyopathy and heart failure. This review explores recent advancements in imaging techniques for diagnosing and managing cardiac amyloidosis, highlighting their clinical applications, strengths, and limitations. Echocardiography remains a primary, non-invasive imaging modality but lacks specificity.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a well-recognized cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) which can lead to myocardial infarction and sudden death. Unlike typical atherosclerosis, SCAD operates through distinct pathophysiology, affecting both individuals with and without conventional cardiovascular risk factors. We present a case of a young female presented with retrosternal chest pain radiating to the left arm, mimicking ACS symptoms with mildly elevated troponin levels, and slightly reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (45%).

Introduction: Vulvar cancer is a rare cause of malignancy among women. It is key for surgeons to achieve negative resection margins, as it greatly impacts patient's prognosis. Unfortunately, additional surgical procedures are often performed due to the regional anatomical complexity.

Ammonia is one of the most produced chemicals around the world due to its various uses. However its traditional production process is associated with high fossil fuel consumption. To avoid this, the production of green ammonia can be done, and one of the considered production methods is water electrolysis, where the hydrogen needed for the manufacturing of ammonia is produced using solar energy.

Mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) represent an independent predictor of better survival in patients with gliomas. We aimed to assess grade and IDH mutation status in patients with untreated gliomas, by evaluating the respective value of F-FET PET/CT via dynamic and texture analyses. A total of 73 patients (male: 48, median age: 47) who underwent an F-FET PET/CT for initial glioma evaluation were retrospectively included.

Metal nanocrystal ornamented metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are of particular interest in multidisciplinary applications; however, their electrocatalytic CO oxidation performance over wide pH ranges is not yet reported. Herein, Ni-MOF-derived hierarchical porous carbon nanosheets (Ni-MOF/PC) with abundant Ni-N sites decorated with Pd nanocrystals (Pd/Ni-MOF/PC) were synthesized by microwave-irradiation (MW-I) followed by annealing at 900 °C and subsequent etching of Ni-MOF/C prior to Pd deposition. The fabrication mechanism comprises the generation of self-reduced reducing gases from triethylamine during the annealing and selective chemical etching of Ni, thereby facilitating the reduction of Ni-anchored MOF and Pd nanocrystal deposition with the aid of ethylene glycol and MW-I to yield Pd/Ni-N enriched MOF/PC.

Direct alcohol fuel cells are deemed as green and sustainable energy resources; however, CO-poisoning of Pt-based catalysts is a critical barrier to their commercialization. Thus, investigation of the electrochemical CO oxidation activity (CO) of Pt-based catalyst over pH ranges as a function of Pt-shape is necessary and is not yet reported. Herein, porous Pt nanodendrites (Pt NDs) were synthesized via the ultrasonic irradiation method, and its CO oxidation performance was benchmarked in different electrolytes relative to 1-D Pt chains nanostructure (Pt NCs) and commercial Pt/C catalyst under the same condition.

Membrane-based natural gas liquid (NGL) recovery processes are still far from their large-scale applications owing to communication gaps among academic researchers and industry practitioners. A comprehensive process systems engineering (PSE) assessment of membrane-based NGL recovery processes is required to determine their commercial suitability. This PSE-based review presents the technical and economic aspects of standalone and integrated membrane processes.

Oligometastatic disease (OMD) is an emerging state of disease with limited metastatic tumor burden. It should be distinguished from polymetastatic disease due the potential curative therapeutic options of OMD. Imaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with OMD.

Article Synopsis
  • The Gulf region, including Qatar, is experiencing a rapid increase in obesity rates alongside a rise in waterpipe (WP) smoking, which raises concerns about the potential link between the two.
  • A study analyzed data from 879 adults in Qatar, revealing that WP smokers had a significantly higher body mass index (BMI) and fat mass compared to cigarette smokers.
  • The findings suggest that daily WP users are more likely to be obese compared to never smokers, indicating a potential health risk associated with WP smoking.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic performance of abbreviated MRI (AMRI) using the maximal intensity projection (MIP) reconstruction of the first post-contrast acquisition subtracted (FAST) compared with MIP+FAST and full-protocol MRI (fpMRI) for the preoperative assessment of breast cancer (BC) in a biopsy-proven cancer population.

Methods: In this monocentric retrospective study, two readers consensually assessed two AMRI protocols consisting of MIP reconstruction of the FAST (MIP) and MIP+FAST. 228 patients were included with a breast MRI performed between 2013 and 2014, 207 of them (90.

The diagnosis of interstitial lung disease may be challenging, especially in atypical disease. Various factors must be considered when performing and reading a chest CT examination for interstitial lung disease, because each of them may represent a source of misinterpretation. Firstly, technical aspects must be mastered, including acquisition and reconstruction parameters as well as post-processing.

Hemangioma is a rare benign vascular tumor composed of dystrophic capillaries, preferentially located in the spinal region (70 %). Bony localizations are exceptional, less than 1 % of cases in large series of bone tumors. We report the case of a 35-year-old male who complained of pain the right forearm for two months.
