Phenological shifts in wild-growing plants and wild animal phenophases are well documented at many European sites. Less is known about phenological shifts in agricultural plants and how wild ecosystem phenology interacts with crop phenology. Here, we present long-term phenological observations (1961-2021) from the Czech Republic for wild plants and agricultural crops and how the timing of phenophases differs from each other.

The dataset presents a 43 year-long reanalysis of pollen seasons for three major allergenic genera of trees in Europe: alder (Alnus), birch (Betula), and olive (Olea). Driven by the meteorological reanalysis ERA5, the atmospheric composition model SILAM predicted the flowering period and calculated the Europe-wide dispersion pattern of pollen for the years 1980-2022. The model applied an extended 4-dimensional variational data assimilation of in-situ observations of aerobiological networks in 34 European countries to reproduce the inter-annual variability and trends of pollen production and distribution.

A recent rise in the global brewery sector has increased the demand for high-quality, late summer hops. The effects of ongoing and predicted climate change on the yield and aroma of hops, however, remain largely unknown. Here, we combine meteorological measurements and model projections to assess the climate sensitivity of the yield, alpha content and cone development of European hops between 1970 and 2050 CE, when temperature increases by 1.

The phenological response to climate change differs among species. We examined the beginning of flowering of the common snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) in connection with meteorological variables in Czechia in the period 1923-2021. The long-term series were analyzed from phenological and meteorological stations of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI).

This paper analyzes a long-term (1991-2019) flowering period of birch in the Czech Republic. Temporal and spatial evaluation in timing of beginning and end of flowering (F and F) and flowering period (F) of Betula pendula were investigated in different zones of the Czech Republic. The field observations were carried out at 44 sites of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute phenological network; the detailed analysis including growing degree days (GDD) evaluation to F and F onsets and time of flowering were made at 9 sites in different altitudes.

The Pan European Phenology (PEP) project is a European infrastructure to promote and facilitate phenological research, education, and environmental monitoring. The main objective is to maintain and develop a Pan European Phenological database (PEP725) with an open, unrestricted data access for science and education. PEP725 is the successor of the database developed through the COST action 725 "Establishing a European phenological data platform for climatological applications" working as a single access point for European-wide plant phenological data.

SCA2 transgenic mice are thought to be a useful model of human spinocerebellar ataxia type 2. There is no effective therapy for cerebellar degenerative disorders, therefore neurotransplantation could offer hope. The aim of this work was to assess the survival and morphology of embryonic cerebellar grafts transplanted into the cerebellum of adult SCA2 mice.

We used fibrosarcoma from an H2-K/V-JUN transgenic mouse to derive a series of three immortal cell lines (JUN-1, -2, and -3). The cell lines exhibit strikingly different behavior regarding phenotype transformation. Features examined include contact inhibition and density limitation of growth, proliferation, invasiveness, motility, and organization of the microfilament system.

Agaritine (N-(gamma-L(+)-glutamyl)-4-hydroxymethylphenylhydrazine) is a phenylhydrazine derivative found in the cultivated Agaricus mushroom which is claimed to give rise to carcinogenic products when metabolized. The stability of a synthetic sample of agaritine was tested in water and methanol. In tap water kept in open vials, agaritine was totally degraded within 48h.

The level of agaritine was measured in fresh and canned cultivated mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) as well as in other food products containing A. bisporus, by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography. The two fresh samples were purchased on the open market and contained 212 and 229 mg/kg, respectively.

There is evidence that the profilin:actin complex is the immediate precursor in the formation of actin filaments in cells. This paper describes the cell morphology and microfilament distribution after microinjection of covalently cross-linked profilin:beta/gamma-actin (PxA) in two different cell lines. Injected cells were either kept unstimulated or stimulated with platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) before fixation and visualization of filamentous actin.

Phosphoinositide 3'-kinases constitute a family of lipid kinases implicated in signal transduction through tyrosine kinase receptors and heterotrimeric G protein-linked receptors. Phosphoinositide 3'-kinases that bind to the platelet-derived growth factor receptor are composed of two subunits: the p85 subunit acts as an adapter and couples the catalytic p110 subunit to the activated receptor. There are different isoforms of p85 as well as of p110, the individual roles of which have been elusive.

We are investigating structure-function relationships in profilin and actin by site-specific mutagenesis using a yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, expression system to produce wild-type and mutant proteins. This paper shows that deleting proline 96 and threonine 97, which are located close to the major actin binding site on profilin, did not significantly alter the interaction between profilin and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate, nor did it affect the profilin:poly(L-proline) interaction. The mutant protein, however, had a lower capacity to bind to actin in vitro than wild-type profilin, though it showed a slightly increased profilin-enhanced nucleotide exchange on the actin.

Over the past 25 years a total of 7492 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae have been isolated in Czechoslovakia, mainly in Prague (64%). All these strains have been tested for susceptibility to the following antibiotics: penicillin G, ampicillin, tetracycline, spectinomycin, erythromycin, doxycycline, kanamycin, rifampin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, cephalothin, cephaloridine, lincomycin and clindamycin. In addition, seven derivatives of newer antibiotics of penicillin and cephalosporin series were tested in 1981.
