This case report exhibits a heavy smoker female patient with a localized stage III periodontitis who has been under the smoking cessation program during the pre-surgical period, followed by a strict maintenance program for the past twelve years, after being treated with guided tissue regeneration techniques and restored with zirconia prosthetic crowns. A 50-year-old, heavy smoker (> 40 cigarettes per day), systemically healthy female patient presented complaining of mobility and pain in the upper right central incisor, which was temporarily splinted to the left central incisor using resin composite. After clinical and radiographic examination, significant damage of the attachment apparatus, deep periodontal lesions extending the middle portion of the root, and severe infrabony defect were noted.

Aim: The aim of this retrospective study is to assess potential correlation between the width of the keratinized gingiva (KG), and the dimensions of the supracrestal gingival tissue (SGT) components.

Materials And Methods: On the sample of 259 teeth of 79 patients, the following measurements were collected: width of KG, sulcus depth (SD), SGT, and biological width (BW) dimensions; separate correlations between measured elements were computed for males and females, for anterior and posterior, and for maxillary and mandibular teeth separately.

Results: Correlations between buccal KG and BW were present only for the upper anterior teeth and were nonsignificant in the female subsample, whereas the correlation between lingual KG and SGT were present only in females.

Several investigations have suggested that ultrasound triggers the release of drugs encapsulated into liposomes at acoustic pressures low enough to avoid cavitation or high hyperthermia. However, the mechanism leading to this triggered release as well as the adequate composition of the liposome membrane remains unknown. Here, we investigate the ultrasound-triggered release of fluorescein disodium salt encapsulated into liposomes made of 1,2-dioleoyl--glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC) or 1,2-distearoylphosphatidyl-ethanolamine (DSPC) lipids with various concentrations of cholesterol (from 0 to 44 mol %).

Background: Marjolin's ulcers are a rare form of malignancy that present at regions exposed to chronic infection. They present with a clinical triad of nodularity, induration, and ulceration greater than 3 months.

This case report exhibits a patient with generalized aggressive periodontitis who has been under maintenance for the past 12 years after being surgically treated in a single sitting and restored with dental implants. Aims And Objectives: Biologic width (BW) as defined by Cohen is the part of the supracrestal gingival tissues that occupy the space between the base of the gingival crevice and the alveolar crest; it includes the junctional epithelium and the connective tissue element. Interactions between dental crowns and the marginal periodontal tissues analyzed in many review papers concluded that the recognition of the BW, in terms of crown margin placement, is beneficial for periodontal health. Therefore, knowledge of the dimensions of the sum of the junctional epithelium and connective tissue attachment as well as the sulcus depth (SD) is of clinical relevance.

The goal of this study was to validate a new method for determining femoral stem positioning based on 3D models derived from the EOS biplanar system. Independents observers measured stem anteversion and femoral offset using CT scan and EOS system of 28 femoral stems implanted in composite femurs. Background And Aim: The effect of ezetimibe-statin combination on inflammatory markers in acute coronary syndrome is unknown. The aim of our study is to evaluate the effect of this combination on the lipid profile, the CRP hs and the sCD40 ligand levels in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients.

Methods: This is a randomized, double-blind study including 93 patients admitted for ACS randomized in 2 groups, ezetimibe 10 mg + atorvastatin 10 mg vs atorvastatin 20 mg + placebo, for 12 weeks follow-up; blood samples were collected for lipid profile, ALT, AST, CRP and sCD40L at baseline, 12 hours, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks.

New iron(II) complexes of formula [Fe(L1)](BF(4))(2) (1) and [Fe(L2)](BF(4))(2) x H(2)O (2) (L1 = 1,7-bis(2'-pyridylmethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane; L2 = 1,8-bis(2'-pyridylmethyl)-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) have been synthesized and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, variable-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. The crystal structure determinations of 1 and 2 reveal in both cases discrete iron(II) monomeric structures in which the two functionalized tetraazamacrocycles (L1 and L2) act as hexadentate ligands; the iron(II) ions are coordinated with six nitrogen atoms: four from the macrocycle and two from two pyridine groups occupying two cis positions around the metal ion. In 1, the N-Fe-N bond angles indicate that the Fe(II) ion adopts an unusual distorted trigonal prismatic geometry.
