Development and validation of a multiplex RT-PCR method for the simultaneous detection of five grapevine viroids.

Grapevine yellow speckle viroid 1 (GYSVd-1), Grapevine yellow speckle viroid 2 (GYSVd-2), Australian grapevine viroid (AGVd), Hop stunt viroid (HSVd) and Citrus exocortis viroid (CEVd) are the five viroids known to infect naturally grapevines. We developed a multiplex RT-PCR (mRT-PCR) method for the simultaneous detection of these five viroids and the amplification of the cDNA fragment of a host-derived mRNA (actin mRNA) as an internal positive control. Specific primers for each targeted viroid were designed by taking into account the sequence variability within and between the viroid species and tested in silico.

Out-of-pocket expenditures for hospital care in Iran: who is at risk of incurring catastrophic payments?

Since the beginning of 1980s, the Iranian health care system has undergone several reforms designed to increase accessibility of health services. Notwithstanding these reforms, out-of-pocket payments which create a barrier to access health services contribute almost half of total health are financing in Iran. This study aimed to provide a greater understanding about the inequality and determinants of the out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) and the related catastrophic expenditure (CE) for hospital services in Iran using a nationwide survey data, the 2003 Utilisation of Health Services Survey (UHSS).

Image reconstruction using filtered backprojection and iterative method: effect on motion artifacts in myocardial perfusion SPECT.

Unlabelled: Patient motion during myocardial perfusion SPECT is a common source of errors. The extent and severity of motion artifacts have been described for filtered backprojection (FBP) reconstruction. In recent years, iterative reconstruction has been used increasingly in reconstruction of myocardial perfusion SPECT images and has been shown to be more accurate than FBP even in cases of incomplete datasets.

Study of the effects of raw garlic consumption on the level of lipids and other blood biochemical factors in hyperlipidemic individuals.

Hyperlipidemia is one of the famous disorders that can lead to atherosclerosis. Garlic has been considered as one of the blood lipids lowering agents for ages, and various studies have been carried out, some of them confirmed this effect of garlic and some did not. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of raw garlic consumption on human blood biochemical factors in hyperlipidemic individuals.

Survey of changes in complete blood count and red cell indices of whole blood incubated in vitro at different temperatures up to 48 hours.

Background: Complete blood count (CBC) is one of the most common and conventional blood test that physicians usually request. However the results of this test are affected by different factors such as, the temperature and duration of incubation, therefore the aim of this survey was to evaluate the effect of temperature and time of incubation on CBC, red blood cells (RBC) indices and white blood cells (WBC) differential count.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, blood samples were taken from 30 healthy medical students of Rafsanjan University (15 males and 15 females).
