Background: To evaluate the efficacy of stoss therapy using fortified biscuit for vitamin D-deficient children.
Methods: A total of 108 children aged 30-72 months with vitamin D deficiency were studied in a randomized single-blind clinical trial. The deficient children were assigned to three groups, namely, vitamin D-fortified biscuit (BG), capsule vitamin D (CG), and ampoule vitamin D (AG).
Purpose: Osteoporosis is an important multifactorial disease which is largely influenced by Wnt signaling pathway. Considering regulatory single nucleotide polymorphisms in Wnt signaling pathway may pave the road of understanding the genetic basis of predisposition to osteoporosis. The aim of this study was to determine the possible association between variants of SFRP1 and WNT5b, and osteoporosis incidence risk.

Recent studies have demonstrated that cytokines, such as TGF-β1 and interleukin 6 (IL-6) play complex roles in the normal bone metabolism and pathophysiology of osteoporosis. Here, we investigated the roles of 2 polymorphisms mapping to the promoters of TGF-β1and IL-6 genes on the genetic susceptibility to osteoporosis as well as calcium and vitamin D levels.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can lead to the development of various complications, such as bone disorders especially among elderly individuals. Studies suggested that ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase1 (ENPP1) is contributed in insulin resistance and also the inhibition of bone mineralization.

Methods: This analytic research came from the AHAP project in northern IRAN.
Osteoporosis is known as a degenerative disease of the skeletal system and its main complication is fracture, which influences quality of life in the elderly. There are 4 major blood groups in humans based on the presence of A and B antigens. According to the investigations, there are reported relations between blood types and some diseases.

Methods: The bone mineral density (BMD) was determined for 1203 participants using energy X-ray absorptiometry. Subjects with a history of diseases and using bone metabolism medications were excluded and finally serum IL-10 was measured in 82 osteoporotic and 74 healthy individuals (mean age ±SD of 71.
Acute necrotizing encephalopathy of childhood (ANEC) is a disease characterized by respiratory or gastrointestinal infection and high fever accompanying with rapid alteration of consciousness and seizures. This disease is nearly exclusively seen in East Asian infants and children who had previously been completely healthy. Serial magnetic resonance imaging examinations have demonstrated symmetric lesions involving the thalami, brainstem, cerebellum, and white matter in this disease.

The aim of this project is to investigate the health status of older people in Amirkola in the northern part of Iran, near the Caspian Sea. The Amirkola Health and Ageing Project (AHAP) is mainly concerned with geriatric medical problems, such as falling, bone fragility and fractures, cognitive impairment and dementia, poor mobility and functional dependence.
