Struma ovarii are specialized teratomas consisting of thyroid tissue with various microscopic features, ranging from benign to malignant. We report a rare form of malignant struma ovarii, composed exclusively of a follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma with capsular invasion, which occurred in a 65-yr-old woman.

From 1992 to 2002 sixteen patients aged 4 - 15 years with a displaced fracture of the proximal humerus were treated at our level I trauma unit. The mean follow-up of the patients was 23.

Calcium phosphate ceramic (CPC) coatings have been used to attach strain gauges to bone for extended periods of time, but require up to 12 weeks for adequate CPC-to-bone bonding. Transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-beta1), an osteoinductive growth factor, was used as a surface enhancement to accelerate bone growth and bonding to CPC particles.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical consequences of scapholunate dissociation associated with fractures of the distal radius and the impact on wrist function. Fractures of the distal radius and scapholunate dissociation overlap in pathomechanics. The diagnosis however is frequently missed initially.

Doubt has been raised whether BACs retain certain specific microscopic features after becoming invasive or metastatic. We studied 7 cases of metastatic, non-mucinous BAC by electron microscopy.

Their combined contributions to clinical knowledge outweighed all that had been learned in medicine in the prior history of the human race.

The objective of this study was to determine the presence of incidental microscopic breast carcinoma in mammography-guided lumpectomy specimens. A prospective study was carried out by processing in surgical pathology approximately 9,000 breast lumpectomy specimens during a 2.

Methods: We selected 50 consecutive cases of infiltrating mammary carcinoma, including both infiltrating ductal carcinoma and infiltrating lobular carcinoma, with positive margins followed by re-excision. Margin positivity was defined as the presence of cancer at the inked margin.
We report the occurrence of bilateral angiosarcoma after radiation therapy for breast carcinoma in a 64 yr-old woman. The first angiosarcoma developed 17 yr after radiation therapy to the right breast; the second angiosarcoma developed 1.5 yr after radiation therapy to the left breast.

This report describes the collaborative project's background, rationale, methods, participation rates, and distributions of known risk factors for breast cancer by case-control status, by blood donation, and by availability of environmental home samples. Interview response rates among eligible cases and controls were 82.

Whether environmental contaminants increase breast cancer risk among women on Long Island, NY, is unknown. The study objective is to determine whether breast cancer risk is increased in relation to organochlorines, compounds with known estrogenic characteristics that were extensively used on Long Island and other areas of the United States. Recent reports do not support a strong association, although there are concerns with high risks observed in subgroups of women.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are potent mammary carcinogens in rodents, but their effect on breast cancer development in women is not clear. To examine whether currently measurable PAH damage to DNA increases breast cancer risk, a population-based case-control study was undertaken on Long Island, NY. Cases were women newly diagnosed with in situ and invasive breast cancer; controls were randomly selected women frequency matched to the age distribution of cases.

Cases of extraorbital sebaceous tumors associated with skin adnexa are less common. The parotid gland may also be a source for sebaceous neoplasms, and cases associated with minor salivary gland tissue have also been reported.

In view of the poor prognosis and paucity of clinical and imaging findings in patients with high-grade liposarcoma that is metastatic to bone marrow, we propose that bone marrow examination should be performed during the patient's initial evaluation as well as follow-up examinations.
