Article Synopsis
  • Caspase-12 is a protein linked to cell death and inflammation, and this study explored its expression in brain cells using specially bred reporter mice.
  • Researchers found that caspase-12 is specifically expressed in Purkinje neurons but did not impact the structure of the cerebellum or the number of these cells.
  • Mice lacking caspase-12 displayed signs of depression and hyperactivity, suggesting its role in mood regulation, and underlying mechanisms involved reduced signaling through a specific neurotrophic factor pathway.

The purpose of this study was to verify that acid polysaccharides from Maxim (APBOM) could relieve diabetic retinopathy (DR) through inhibition of angiogenesis activation of the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway. Transgenic db/db mice were used to establish a DR model, and it was found that APBOM could improve levels of blood glucose, blood lipids and insulin, and further improve pathological retinal tissue structure as well as vascular network structure. Moreover, APBOM could lessen the amount of angiogenesis by reducing the expression of CD34 and VEGF, and then delay the development process of DR.

Public health crises pose challenges for governments and health systems, and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has presented major challenges to humans worldwide. In the context of COVID-19 in China, we explore the impacts of the pandemic on the mental health of undergraduate students. We examine pandemic prevention and control measures in Chinese universities through a rapid review and use our findings to explain the difficulties that undergraduate students face.

The effect of school leadership (SL) on student achievement (SA) has been extensively examined, whereas the influences of teacher commitment (TC) and collaborative culture (CC) have not been thoroughly explored. This study conducted a moderated mediation analysis by investigating (a) TC as a mediator in the relationship between SL and SA and (b) CC as a moderator of the relationship between SL and SA. Altogether, 3,134 (female =1,673, 53.

When confronted with a real-world problem, heuristic knowledge and experience can guide the solution of a specific technical problem as the key step toward innovation. In particular, a heuristic prototype must be used correctly to cue the technical problem that exists in a particular situation. The present study selected an innovative paradigm and scientific innovation materials to investigate the neural basis of insight induced by heuristic prototypes using event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
