Article Synopsis
  • A phase III clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different radiation doses (high vs. standard) and irradiation fields (involved field vs. elective nodal) on survival outcomes for patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
  • Results indicated that there were no significant differences in overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS) between the different irradiation fields, but the high-dose treatment suggested an improvement in PFS compared to the standard dose.
  • The best prognostic outcomes were observed in the high-dose with involved field group (HD+IFI), while the standard dose with involved field group (SD+IFI) had the worst outcomes, and no substantial differences in severe adverse events were

This study investigated the efficiency and safety of hypofractionated radiotherapy (HFR) combined with paclitaxel chemotherapy for the treatment of postsurgery tracheoesophageal groove lymph node (TGLN) metastasis in patients with esophageal cancer (EC). Fifty-three EC patients with TGLN metastasis after surgery admitted to the Yancheng Third People's Hospital from January 2013 to June 2015 were included in this study. They were randomly divided into the HFR group ( = 25) and conventional fractioned radiotherapy (CFR) group ( = 28) based on the random grouping method.

Background: The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), based on peripheral lymphocytes, neutrophils, and platelet count, has been used as a prognostic marker for several tumors. However, use of the SII has not been reported for gastric cancer.

Methods: We evaluated the prognostic value of the SII in primary and validation cohorts.

Background: There is increasing evidence of a relationship between long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and cancer. This study aimed to examine the prognostic value of the lncRNA ZFAS1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Results: The results showed that ZFAS1 expression was significantly higher in ESCC tissues compared with the corresponding adjacent normal tissues ( < 0.

Background: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) is one of the most deadly types of soft tissue sarcoma. To date, there have been few studies dedicated to elucidating the molecular mechanisms behind the disease; therefore, the molecular mechanisms behind this malignancy remain largely unknown.

Materials And Methods: Microarray profiles of 46 DDLPS samples and nine normal fat controls were extracted from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO).

Previous studies reported that elevated expression of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) GAS5 led to the arrest of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell growth and a promotion of apoptosis both in vitro and in vivo. However, its underlying molecular mechanism in NSCLC is still unclear. In the present study, we noted that GAS5 was downregulated in NSCLC tissues and cells and was negatively correlated with miR-23a expression.

Esophageal cancer is a highly malignant and lethal disease with a low 5-year survival rate. Therefore, an effective treatment modality is required. To investigate the treatment efficacy and toxicity of radio-, chemo- and hyper-thermotherapy combined trimodality on locally advanced esophageal cancer, the medical records of 78 patients with pathologically confirmed esophageal cancer treated with chemoradiotherapy plus hyperthemia at our institution were retrospectively investigated and the 3-year outcome was carefully assessed.
