Context: Due to metabolic alterations caused by overweight, the bariatric surgery has been a largely used procedure in order to propitiate long term weight loss and maintenance in a population with morbid obesity.

Objective: To analyze the impact of bariatric surgery in a population from the center area of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, using the BAROS method.

Method: It was carried out a retrospective study with 32 patients from both sexes, aging between 19 and 44 years old who were patients from a private clinic at the city of Santa Maria, RS.
