Background: Barrett's esophagus is an acquired condition that predisposes to the development of esophageal adenocarcinoma.

Aims: The aim of this study was to establish an association between the endoscopic and the histopathological findings regarding differently sized endoscopic columnar epithelial mucosa projections in the low esophagus, under 3.0 cm in the longitudinal extent.

[Analysis of the bariatric surgery impact in a population from the center area of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, using the BAROS method].

Context: Due to metabolic alterations caused by overweight, the bariatric surgery has been a largely used procedure in order to propitiate long term weight loss and maintenance in a population with morbid obesity.

Objective: To analyze the impact of bariatric surgery in a population from the center area of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, using the BAROS method.

Method: It was carried out a retrospective study with 32 patients from both sexes, aging between 19 and 44 years old who were patients from a private clinic at the city of Santa Maria, RS.
