Antimony (Sb) is one of the most concerning toxic metals globally, making the study of methods for efficiently removing Sb(III) from water increasingly urgent. This study uses graphene oxide and chitosan as the matrix (GOCS), modifying them with FeCl and four MnO to form iron-manganese oxide (FM/GC) at a Fe/Mn molar ratio of 4:1. FM/GC quaternary composite microspheres are prepared, showing that FM/GC obtained from different MnO exhibits significant differences in the ability to remove Sb(III) from neutral solutions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how water deficit affects the crystal type and properties of starch in Pueraria lobata var. thomsonii, revealing a transformation from CB-type to CA-type.
  • Under water stress, small starch granules increased, amylose content decreased, and the starch exhibited altered gelatinization behavior and peak splitting in the heat flow curve.
  • These changes in starch properties are seen as adaptive responses to water deficit, enhancing the plant's resilience.

Article Synopsis
  • A study on trees or shrubs from the Boraginaceae family in China revealed their strong resistance and adaptation to coral island habitats, yet lacked prior genome information.
  • The researchers assembled a comprehensive genome of 475.3 Mb, with a high percentage (99.22%) organized into 16 chromosomes, and identified over 26,000 genes.
  • Phylogenetic analysis showed a close genetic relationship with another species, with divergence occurring approximately 77 million years ago, highlighting gene families linked to disease defense that may explain their adaptation strategies.

Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most toxic metals in the environment and exerts deleterious effects on plant growth and production. Duckweed has been reported as a promising candidate for Cd phytoremediation. In this study, the growth, Cd enrichment, and antioxidant enzyme activity of duckweed were investigated.

Cadmium (Cd) and polyethylene (PE) seriously contaminate the aquatic environment and threaten human health. Many studies have reported the toxic effects of Cd and PE on plants, whereas few have reported the combined contamination of these two pollutants. In this study, duckweed (Lemma minor) was used as an indicator to explore the effect of PE microplastics (PE-MPs) at concentrations of 10, 50, 100, 200, and 500 mg/L on tolerance to 1 mg/L Cd.

The combined contamination of heavy metals and microplastics is widespread in freshwater environments. However, there are few researches on their combined effects on aquatic plants. In this study, the effects of single and combined stress of 0.
