A targeted and timely treatment can be a beneficial tool for patients with hematological emergencies (particularly acute leukemias). The key challenges in the early diagnosis of leukemias and related hematological disorders are their symptom-sharing nature and prolonged turnaround time as well as the expertise needed in reporting confirmatory tests. The present study made use of the potential morphological and immature fraction-related parameters (research items or cell population data) generated during complete blood cell count (CBC), through artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) predictive modeling for early (at the pre-microscopic level) differentiation of various types of leukemias: acute from chronic as well as myeloid from lymphoid.

Phenotypic and functional differences among mature and immature neutrophil fractions are well reported, and their correlation with tumor progression and therapy has emerging implications in modern oncology practices. Technological advancements enabled modern hematology analyzers to generate extended information (research parameters) during complete blood cell count (CBC) analysis.

Unlabelled: It is increasingly recognised that patients with severe COVID-19 infection have a significant risk of thromboembolic events. We describe a patient who rapidly deteriorated due to severe infection with COVID-19, and developed priapism in the last days of his life. We believe development of priapism may be associated with a prothrombotic state secondary to COVID-19 infection.

Current round of study made use of potential morphological and immature fraction-related parameters (cell population data) generated during complete blood cell count (CBC), through artificial neural network (ANN) predictive modeling for early flagging of APML cases. We collected classical CBC items along with cell population data (CPD) from hematology analyzer at diagnosis of 1067 study subjects with hematological neoplasms.

Sequential therapy has been suggested as an alternative. The efficacy of sequential therapy has not been assessed to date in an Irish population.

Eradication rates of first-line triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection have fallen in the recent years. The main reasons for treatment failure are poor compliance due to complicated treatment regimens and the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of H. pylori.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIliopsoas bursitis is a poorly recognized cause of hip pain that requires early recognition to avoid potentially serious complications caused by compression of adjacent structures. It can occur in the setting of trauma in athletes or those who engage in heavy labor and is also associated with acute or chronic arthritis. We describe the cases of 2 patients, one of whom developed a femoral neuropathy, while the other had marked venous compression of the lower limb resulting from enlargement of the iliopsoas bursa.
