Coronary sinus Reducer implantation is a percutaneous technique used to treat patients suffering from refractory angina pectoris. The device narrows the coronary sinus, increases the back pressure in the myocardial venous system and forces redistribution of coronary blood flow from less ischemic subepicardium to the more ischemic subendocardium. Multiple clinical studies had proven its efficacy to alleviate myocardial ischemia and related symptoms, and to improve the quality of life of patients with refractory symptomatic chronic coronary artery disease for whom coronary revascularization is deemed unsuitable.

Miniaturized electrical stimulation (ES) implants show great promise in practice, but their real-time control by means of biophysical mechanistic algorithms is not feasible due to computational complexity. Here, we study the feasibility of more computationally efficient machine learning methods to control ES implants. We compared oropharyngeal swab test performance with nasopharyngeal testing for discontinuation of transmission-based COVID-19 precautions. We performed a retrospective review of confirmed COVID-19-positive patients who received paired nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal SARS-CoV-2 tests for clearance from isolation from May 4, 2020, to May 26, 2020. Using nasopharyngeal swabs as the reference standard, we calculated the sensitivity, specificity, and negative predictive value of oropharyngeal swabs.

Red luminescent and superparamagnetic β-NaYEuF@γ-FeO nanoparticles, made of a 70 nm-sized β-NaYEuF single crystal core decorated by a 10 nm-thick polycrystalline and discontinuous γ-FeO shell, have been synthesized by the polyol process. Functionalized with citrate ligands they show a good colloidal stability in water making them valuable for dual magnetic resonance and optical imaging or image-guided therapy. They exhibit a relatively high transverse relaxivity r = 42.

We report a case of microcystic adnexal carcinoma in a 80-year-old woman. This is a rare malignant adnexal cutaneous tumor with glandular and follicular differentiation, rare, often asymptomatic, with late diagnosis and slow growth, locally aggressive and rarely metastatic. The distinction with other benign and malignant skin tumors is difficult.

In this work, we present a detailed characterization of a small-core double-clad photonic crystal fiber, dedicated and approved for in vivo nonlinear imaging endomicroscopy. A numerical and experimental study has been performed to characterize the excitation and collection efficiencies through a 5 m-long optical fiber, including the pulse duration and spectral shape. This was first done without any distal optics, and then the performances of the system were studied by using two kinds of GRIN lenses at the fiber output.

We use a fiber-optical fluorescence probe for spectroscopic and time domain measurements to assist surgeon in differentiating the healthy and the infiltrated tissues. Several endomicroscope prototypes for nonlinear optical imaging were developed in the last decade for in situ analysis of tissue with cellular resolution by using short infrared light pulses. Fourier-transform-limited pulses at the tissue site are necessary for optimal excitation of faint endogenous signals. However, obtaining these transform-limited short pulses remains a challenge, and previously proposed devices did not achieve an optimal pulse delivery.
