Lanostane-type triterpenoids, inotolactones A and B, a drimane-type sesquiterpenoid, inotolactone C, and five known terpenoids 6β-hydroxy-trans-dihydroconfertifolin, inotodiol, 3β,22-dihydroxyanosta-7,9(11),24-triene, 3β-hydroxycinnamolide, and 17-hydroxy-ent-atisan-19-oic acid, were isolated from the submerged culture of chaga mushroom, Inonotus obliquus. Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic methods, including MS and NMR (1D and 2D) spectroscopic techniques. Inotolactones A and B, examples of lanostane-type triterpenoids bearing α,β-dimethyl, α,β-unsaturated δ-lactone side chains, exhibited more potent alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activities than the positive control acarbose.

Methods: The rat model of alcoholic hepatic fibrosis was induced by intragastric administration of alcohol repeatedly. The serum procollagen III (PC III), laminin (LN) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) levels were measured with ELISA, and the content of hydroxyproline (Hyp) in liver tissue were determined with colorimetric method.

Objective: To establish a pre-column derivatization HPLC method for quantitation of hydroxyproline (Hyp) in rat kidney tissue by reversed-phase assay.
Methods: Rat kidney samples were hydrolyzed in 6 mol x L⁻¹ HCl under 110 degree for 24 h, then 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (FMOC) was added for the pre-column reaction. The HPLC analysis was performed on a Phenomenex C₁₈ column using sodium acetate buffer, methanol and acetonitrile as mobile phase with a flow rate of 1.

Methods: Acute gastric ulcer was induced in rats with absolute ethyl alcohol. The ulcer index was used to evaluate the extent of the gastric mucosa injury.

Objective: To optimize the extraction process of root of Polygoni multflori and validate the interrelation between antioxdative capacity and the content of 2,3,4,5-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-beta-D-glucoside in root of P. multiflori.
Method: The optimum extraction was abserved with the orthogonal design; 2,3,4,5-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-beta-D-glucoside was determined by HPLC and the antioxidative capacity by using photochemiluminescence detection method with the Photochem supplied by Analytik Jena AG; the concentration of ethanol, amount of ethanol, extraction time and extraction times were the four factors in the extraction.
