Characterization of intestinal bacteria for the production of quercetin and isoquercitrin from rutin.

This study was to evaluate the potential of human intestinal bacterial species in the biotransformation of rutin to quercetin and isoquercitrin which is rarer than rutin in nature and could more potently inhibit the growth of some cancer cell lines. Bacterial strains isolated from healthy human fecal samples were identified through 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis and genome analysis. Isoquercitrin and quercetin were identified and quantified by UHPLC-QQQ-MS in multiple reaction monitoring mode.

Clinical insights into tuberculosis otitis media: diagnosis, treatment, and management outcomes.

Objectives: The diagnosis of tuberculosis otitis media (TBOM) remains a great challenge. This study aims to suggest potential diagnostic clues and proper management of TBOM.

Methods: The study is a retrospective review of TBOM cases that were treated at our department, between January 2015 and June 2023.

Enhanced recovery after surgery-based nursing in older patients with postoperative intestinal obstruction after gastric cancer surgery: A retrospective study.

Background: Gastric cancer-related morbidity and mortality rates are high in China. Patients who have undergone gastric cancer surgery should receive six cycles of chemotherapy according to their condition. During this period, intestinal obstruction is likely to occur.

Clinical study of chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Background: Chemotherapy for malignant tumors can cause brain changes and cognitive impairment, leading to chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment (CICI). Current research on CICI has focused on breast cancer and Hodgkin's lymphoma. Whether patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) undergoing chemotherapy have cognitive impairment has not been fully investigated.

The effect of fasting plasma glucose on in-hospital mortality after acute myocardial infarction in patients with and without diabetes: findings from a prospective, nationwide, and multicenter registry.

Objectives: To evaluate the predictive value of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with different glucose metabolism status.

Methods: We selected 5,308 participants with AMI from the prospective, nationwide, multicenter CAMI registry, of which 2,081 were diabetic and 3,227 were nondiabetic. Patients were divided into high FPG and low FPG groups according to the optimal cutoff values of FPG to predict in-hospital mortality for diabetic and nondiabetic cohorts, respectively.

Fire acupuncture for plaque psoriasis case series.

Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of fire acupuncture (FA) on plaque psoriasis (PP), exploring its suitable syndrome types, in order to achieve better therapeutic effects, accelerate the possibility of psoriasis skin lesion recovery, and provide assistance for clinical treatment.

Methods: A total of 8 patients with PP aged between 18 and 60 years were recruited and treated with FA once a week, and the lesion area and severity index (PASI), visual analog scale and pruritus were measured before, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after treatment and at the follow-up period (week 12), respectively. Visual analog scale, and dermoscopy were used for assessment.

Identification and bioactivity evaluation of ring-opening and lactone forms of enterolactone from sheep fed flaxseed cake.

The previously undescribed lactone ring-opening enterolactone and its sulphate were purified along with the lactone counterparts from the urine of dairy sheep fed flaxseed cake. The structures were determined by NMR and MS analyses. The ring-opening and lactone forms underwent mutual transformation with changes in pH and milk could protect the lactone form.

Effect of particle dispersion on electrochemical performance of Prussian blue analogues electrode materials for sodium ion batteries.

Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) have advantages such as high voltage and low cost, making them one kind of the promising positive electrode materials for sodium-ion batteries. Particle dispersion is a key physical parameter of electrode materials, and understanding its impact on electrochemical performance is a prerequisite for obtaining high-performance PBAs. In this article, two PBAs samples with different particle dispersion were synthesized through sodium citrate-assisted co-precipitation method by means of staying and stirring.

Metabolic flux and catabolic kinetics of prebiotic-like dietary polyphenol phlorizin in association with gut microbiota in vitro.

As ubiquitous components among fruits, polyphenols, including flavonoids and phenolic acids, are somewhat embarrassed on their health benefits but low bioavailability, triggering a hotspot on their interaction with microbiota. Due to its structural characteristics similar to flavonoids and phenolic acids, dihydrochalcone phlorizin (PHZ) was selected as a reference, to illustrate its step-by-step metabolic fate associated with microbiota. The results confirmed that the metabolic flux of PHZ starts with its conversion to phloretin (PHT), sequentially followed by the formation of 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propionic acid (PHA), and 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (4-HPAA).

Long-Term Prognosis of Different Reperfusion Strategies for ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Chinese County-Level Hospitals: Insight from China Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry.

Objective: To evaluate the long-term prognosis of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with different reperfusion strategies in Chinese county-level hospitals.

Methods: A total of 2,514 patients with STEMI from 32 hospitals participated in the China Acute Myocardial Infarction registry between January 2013 and September 2014. The success of fibrinolysis was assessed according to indirect measures of vascular recanalization.

Development and validation of a score predicting mortality for older patients with mitral regurgitation.

Objective: To develop and validate a user-friendly risk score for older mitral regurgitation (MR) patients, referred to as the Elder-MR score.

Methods: The China Senile Valvular Heart Disease (China-DVD) Cohort Study functioned as the development cohort, while the China Valvular Heart Disease (China-VHD) Study was employed for external validation. We included patients aged 60 years and above receiving medical treatment for moderate or severe MR (2274 patients in the development cohort and 1929 patients in the validation cohort).

Methods: Three animal models of polycystic ovary syndrome were created by treating 3-week-old rats respectively with estradiol valerate, testosterone propionate, or constant illumination for 8 weeks.

Triglyceride glucose index predicts in-hospital mortality in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction who underwent primary angiography.

Objectives: To assess the correlation between triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and in-hospital mortality in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods: A total of 2190 patients with STEMI who underwent primary angiography within 12 h from symptom onset were selected from the prospective, nationwide, multicenter CAMI registry. TyG index was calculated with the formula: Ln [fasting triglycerides (mmol/L) × fasting glucose (mmol/L)/2].

Purpose: This study explores the association between the duration and variation of infant sleep trajectories and subsequent cognitive school readiness at 48-50 months.

Methods: Participants were 288 multi-ethnic children, within the Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) cohort. Caregiver-reported total, night and day sleep durations were obtained at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24 using the Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire and 54 months using the Child Sleep Habits Questionnaire.

Effects of Zishen Yutai Pills on in vitro Fertilization-Embryo Transfer Outcomes in Patients with Diminished Ovarian Reserve: A Prospective, Open-Labeled, Randomized and Controlled Study.

Objective: To explore the effects of Zishen Yutai Pills (ZYPs) on the quality of oocytes and embryos, as well as pregnancy outcomes in patients with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) receiving in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET). The possible mechanisms, involving the regulation of bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) and growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF9), were also investigated.

Methods: A total of 120 patients with DOR who underwent their IVF-ET cycle were randomly allocated to 2 groups in a 1:1 ratio.

Introduction: Chronic severe aortic regurgitation (AR) has a poor long-term prognosis, especially among old-age patients. Considering their advancing age, the surgical approach of aortic valve replacement may not always be the best alternative modality of treatment in such patients. Therefore, this study's primary goal was to provide an initial summary of the medium- and short-term clinical effectiveness of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) guided by accurate multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) measurements in patients with severe and chronic AR, especially in elderly patients.

The Inhibitory Role of Hydrogen Sulfide in UII-Induced Cardiovascular Effects and the Underlying Signaling Pathways.

Urotensin II (UII) could increase blood pressure and heart rate via increased central reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. We reported previously that hydrogen sulfide (HS) exerts an antihypertensive effect by suppressing ROS production. The aim of the current study is to further examine the effects of endogenous and exogenous HS on UII-induced cardiovascular effects by using an integrated physiology approach.

Hainan Island had experienced several cold-warm and dry-humid fluctuations since the Late Pleistocene period, resulting in separating and connecting from the mainland several times with the cyclic rise and fall of sea level. The fluctuations can change the biota and ecological environment in the island. Carruthers is endemic to Hainan Island and is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
